The question really is "Why do religious belief systems ask believers to worship the god(s)?".
I think that the worshipping god requirement
- helps make believers feel that they're part of an exclusive group,
- helps make believers feel that they have a personal connection with god, and one in which god likes them, and
- helps make believers feel as though they're making honorable sacrifices for the larger good.
All of these things serve to preserve the religion, which is of course the underlying reason why a religion has any of its parts.

Well my GOD is your GOD to. And if everyone would follow his rules it would be a lot better world. No violence, no drugs , no killings, and everything else out there that's evil. God just wants us to love him and put no other GODS before him. Its like a parent trying to raise a child with values and kindness to go out into this world to be a better person with everyone in society.

Why would you follow the rules of A god that doen's exist. You must belive in Him first before you can obey Him. He is our creator and that is that. He is greater than we are. No non believer can change that just because they choose not to believe.
You can't see the air you breathe, but you can't live with out it. How do you know it's there? You can't see it. The same goes for God. You can't see him with your eyes, yet you can only begin to live, once you start to believe in God and in His son Jesus. There is a difference between merely existing, or actually living. You must be born again in order for you to begin really living. Prasie the Lord!!
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

This isn't really an answer, but just something I feel like saying here.
I used to be a Christian, but then I realized the utter stupidity of the entire "God loves you, but he has a place where you rot in a pit of fire for all eternity set aside in case you sin" thing. If God wanted me to believe in him so bad, wouldn't he give me some type of definitive sign that he is, in fact, there? More people are killed in the name of God than any other cause, one could even argue religion is the root of all evil.

It would be sorta tough to have a personal relationship with God if you didn't think he existed.
I worship God freely because he loved me enough to give his Son Jesus for my sins. He supplies all my needs and cares very much for me.
People on earth worship so many things, movie stars, models, computers, money, power, love, sex and the list goes on. They find it so easy to put all their time and effort in something that will pass with time.
I worship God, God will never pass, God created all that has ever been created, nothing we have is ours except that he created it or that which it was made from.
What do you worship?

If you did not believe he existed, why would you follow his rules? He have to believe he exist before any other type of relationship can exist.

Revelation 4:11 "You are worthy, Jehovah, even our God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power, because you created all things, and because of your will they existed and were created."
Psalms 14:1The senseless one/fool has said in his heart, there is no God.
Believing in God's existence is showing a measure of common sense, which leads to trust and happiness. Psalms 84:12

We all have the same God. It's not my, your's, his, and her's. God is just a higher being or higher power. Religion was created by man. God is shaking her head down at us all wondering what in the world we're all fighting about. Believing in a higher power lets us have hope.
My philosophy: believe in God however you want, and let others do the same.

That's like asking why Superman stands while bullets are bouncing off his chest but ducks when the empty gun is thrown at him.
Their god wants them to worship him because it fits the story better. It doesn't have to make sense. It just has to give them something meaningless to do to feel better about themselves.
