I can't stand when people tell my children that they will call Santa if they don't behave. Why do parents do this to children?

Because they have no idea how to manage their children, other than through idle threats.

Santa isn't a "lie"... Santa is the spirit of giving without recognition. My 25 year old step daughter is STILL trying to get her father to admit there is no Santa... and has yet to succeed!

My five year old was told a few months ago that if she misbehaved Santa wouldn't come this year (by someone who isn't a parent no less)... she told them "Yes he will, because I misbehaved last Christmas and he still came because I have a good heart."

How's that for putting them in their place? You go girl !!!!

in fact, that is the worst way of making kids behave. telling on santa might break the heart of the child bcz Santa is a pretty dear personality in their childhood-life. and elder ppl, since they know Santa's true identity, use that knowledge to put kids as they want (silent, to sleep, behave... etc) so they would still get the toy they would write abt to santa.

bcz if they misbehave, and u tell Santa, they might not get the gift (this is child-psychology)..

hope this helped.

thanks

It's the same as a mom saying "if you don't behave, I'll have to tell your father what you did. Just you wait till he gets home". I don't see how it's wrong... it's the same idea.

Santa's myth was always based on "seeing if you're bad or good". Bad kids weren't supposed to get gifts from Santa. Why would you tolerate bad behavior and still reward them with the idea Santa's bringing them toys?

True enough. What even bothers me more about this situation is that all during their formative years we teach our kids to be honest to always tell mommy and daddy the truth. That it is wrong to lie... that lying is a very bad thing to do.

Then we tell them if they behave and do as they should this lil magic fat man is going to magically enter our house while they are sleeping and leave them presents.... but if they are bad he will leave them chunks of coal......

Is it any wonder that when kids find out the santa we taught them about is a myth... that they grow up to think the God we taught them about that loves them and cares about them .... is a myth too??

they do this because they think that the child will be scared that Santa will not bring them any presents for Christmas so they will start thinking how sad they will be on Christmas morning it makes them want to cry so act really good
it is very mean like a threat
my parents did it to me

Cause we believe Santa is the man to tell! Who better to call (the Ghost Buster) they don't care if your bad or good but Santa he can definitely make ya wish you hadn't been so rotten all year long lol good luck.

I dont know - I hate the whole concept of Santa - it is one big fat lie to your children. I dont want my children thinking they have been bad because we couldnt afford to buy them something really expensive that someone in their class has got. I tell my children that I buy the presents and I believe they appriciate it more than if it came from a man they dont ever see. Also how are you supposed to teach your children not to lie when you are lying to them for such a long time.l

I got a better one-a woman my boyfriend works with let her FOUR YEAR OLD watch the Chuckie movie series. Now everytime the little girl is bad, she tells her, 'im going to tell Chuckie to come and eat you'

Is that the sickest, most disturbing thing ever? I am considering calling CPS on her.

I don't have any kids yet, but I probably will not start that whole Santa myth with them. Bottom line is if they act up, I WILL NOT get them anything for Christmas!
