My dad's kids think im spoilt, but that's not my fault if that's how my parents brought me up? please help!

Question

once i was in the car with my dad and he told me he was gonna call his daughter so we could get to know each other better, so he uses the car fone and it's on speaker . and he goes like you and carla should meet up some time to get to know eachother better , then she gets all worked up and starts saying
ofcourse dad anything for your little princess,(sarcastic) and then she goes dad do you know how much you guys have spoilt her! and so my dad goes cmon sweety she's a nice girl once you get to know her!
and she's like: nice? dad that's not even part of hervocabulary. and plus why does she get a like million dollar allowance? and she's always out till 5 a.m and i dont remembe rbeing out that late when i was in high school .. " the conversation went on kind of like that .. and like i dont get a million dollars it's 1000 a month and plus why does she care? why is she so like mad at me for no reason?

$1000 a month? That's more disposable income than most middle class families have for clothing and entertainment. Your parents have done you no favors giving you that kind of money, nor have they by letting you stay out until 5am.

That said, you aren't exactly to blame for it, but the result is that you probably act like most spoilt kids - arrogant, superior, snobbish and like the world owes you a living. That's why your stepsister says you're not a nice person. She's also jealous, no doubt, because she has to 'share you' with her dad, and she hasn't had the advantages you have (read: spoiling), which I guess would piss me off also.

Just because you were "raised" a certain way. You are old enough to change. What exactly does a 15 yr old do with a $1000 a month? Why stay out until 5 am. I can understand why your sister thinks your spoiled. I guess when your sister was your age she had "rules " that had to be followed or she would get grounded. Its obvious from what you wrote that your sister never got $1000 a month. She is hurt that your father is treating his two children so differently. She must feel that your father loves you more or that your his favorite. Now that you know how she feels about you, you can try and change her opinion about you but only if you are ready to change your "princess" complex. Here's a thought for you...The next time you don't like being called "spoiled" go down to your local Health Department and spend the day there. I bet you can't walk out of there not feeling spoiled. Just imagine what someone who can't feed their family could do with $1000 a month. You don't even sound grateful for what is given to you. Do some soul searching and put yourself in your sisters shoes for once. She's hurt and your complaining. Good luck.

Hi Carla. Sometimes you just have to remember that you can't make everyone like you. I don't blame you for being offended though. It is hard to sit and listen to someone say mean things, especially when you feel they are not justified. It sounds like you are lucky to have parents that take such good care of you and want you to be close to the rest of the kids. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work out the way parents would like. It sounds like big Sis is a little jealous of the time, money and attention you get from your Dad. Don't let one episode like this turn you away from her, ok? You two are sisters, and should try to learn to love each other. If you can't learn to love each other, then at least try to work out a mutual respect so you can get along for your parents sake. Call and invite her out to lunch or go see a movie together. Maybe you could drop by for a visit and get to know her better. If that doesn't work and Big Sis still has a bad attitude, then learn that sometimes the best thing to do is enjoy your life and hope someday her attitude changes.

Man oh man....you need a wake up call.....$1000.00 a month ....for an allowance for a 15 yr old.....You've got to be kidding....

I have a 15 yr old and she doesn't get an allowance!!! She wants money or needs money she must earn it.

You are a taker...moocher and don't appreciate anything and are with your hand held out wanting more.

You need a reality check. If you were in my house you'd be down at the mission serving the people who don't have!!! Or you would be put to work in the farm fields picking vegetables or fruit!

It isn't your fault...you are right on that point its how ur parents raised you, but can you put yourself in your sister's position and know how it feels when your parents disregarded you but at the same time praise your sister. You would feel like there is injustice done on you ... but you have to be in another person's shoe to actually know how it feels to be put down. It must be fun to actually get spoild, but realize nothing last forever and everything you have will be lost...can you go on living then? I fsomething happens and your family is in financial probloem permemnently then half of your freinds won't even be there for you no matter how loyal you think they are cuz if you don't spend money on anything, your social life will be bad ...boyfreinds, freinds wt ever...All the luxuries u might have right now lost. If you really need help then trying living differently to see how hard it must of been to sacrifice somethings...then when you see someone else living your life , you will understand what your sister ment.
