Honestly if the woman is OK with it, if she accepts this as part of her faith or if she chooses this herself how does it affect us? I wear my own headcovering and no it is not hijab but it is a symbol. I get negative comments and stares from time to time. I just wonder why some people seem to care so much as to ask if it should be banned? Why do we feel the need?

I only wear long skirts and decent dresses. I would not be caught dead in a bikini. In one of Mary's recent apparitions she warned that more people go to hell for sins of the flesh than for anything else. And I am Catholic. Just a very modest one.

Actually the head scarf I wear is small and just for me. It reminds me who I am and it is a sign of my submission to my spouse. I am just defending those who choose hijab.

There are two things you can do with a diamond.
West: Exhibit it.
Orient: Cover and hide it.

I personally couldn't care less whether you wear a scarf (hijab is a scarf right?) or not. It's your choice. But I find that most Moslem girls start to wear scarfs when they get older coz they think they are getting uglier :-)... i'm fine with that too.

Most people do not care if a woman wears the hijab. Where the real problem comes in is when there is a dress code that does not accept them. Safety is another factor as well. This one I know very well. i would not hire two young wwmon because they would not take off the hijab. the job was operating machines that demanded the operator not have loose clothing to get caught in the works. I was taken to court over it and it cost a lot to hire an aterny to convince the court that it had nothing to do with their religion but only for their own safety. After that no one wearing a hijab was allowed in the building for any reason. This kind of thing is where the problem is. Some schools do have uniforms dress and any one attending that school should adhear to the code. there are other schools to attend that do allow it. The general publick in most places do not care but will look and a few will make remarks but any one different gets the same thing as you do.

Why would anyone question hijab in the first place? I never see anyone questioning a nun for wearing a habit but if a muslim woman is wearing hijab, she gets stared at and treated differently. What is the difference between a catholic woman covering her hair and an muslim woman covering her hair? It is their choice, no one has the right to ban it, if they did, they would have to ban all forms of head coverings, hats, scarfs, hijab and habits. When do we draw the line and let people follow their religion as they wish? I am american who converted to islam, I don't wear hijab, that is my choice, but I know many women who do and it is their choice. People should just leave others alone.

People are just bothered by that which they don't understand, or don't want to accept.

I find it laughable that someone suggested that wearing a hijab or covering yourself is an insult to others and makes them feel slutty, etc. If they are so uncomfortable with the way they dress, then they need to rethink their style. If you have wholeheartedly accepted a level of modesty (more or less), then you shouldn't have to defend it, or feel guilty for it.
And yes, a woman who covers herself by choice is more modest at least outwardly than a woman who doesn't. How can anyone dispute that?

What you are saying is very true, wearing a Hijab is up to the woman herself to decide, exactly like when a woman decided to be a nun and covers her hair, it is a personal decision no one has the right to interfere, I think a decent woman deserves all the respect, I don't know why a topless woman is OK to the world while a decent woman who covers her hair and body is looked at in a different way, amazing how people think!!!

By wearing it the suggestion is that you are more devout and pure than someone who does not wear it, you are also implying that those who do not wear hijab are therefore immodest or slutty...it's insulting to people who don't wish to wear it and puts pressure on them to do so, it's divisive and sets you apart as unlike those who do not wear it. It's not required by the Qu'ran to wear hijab.

It is basically just advertising or propaganda for the religion, some of us find religious symbols an imposition and would rather they remain in the home and places of worship where they belong.

You've answered your own question. Obviously _you_ care, otherwise you wouldn't have adopted this symbol.

Symbols are important. They're meant to be seen, and they're intended to send a message without words. Flags; statues; fish and crosses and crescents and stars; you name it, each symbol carries a library's worth of meaning.

So why are you surprised by the stares? -- People know they're being told _something_, they want to understand the message, or express their opinion if they already understand it.

I guess some people think that women are forced into it. A woman does not have to be Muslim to dress conservatively, but people view that as 'her choice', and therefore it's okay. Some people need to quit attacking other religions and focus on their own instead.

Actually those people who disagree with any decent dresses are either ignorant are consider Women in general as a commodity and not a human-being.

My christian sister
I agree with you
I think wearing provacative dresses is one source of sin in the society, beacause men are weak against these temptations. and they may fall into sinfull thoughts and it is a way for satan to make us forget God
God bless you
