I am planning on having a renaissance wedding next year, September. I have my dress, the chainmail armor is being handcrafted, etc. etc. I want something creative for the invitations but the only thing I am coming up with are scrolls to be sent out to the guests. Any other ideas out there for a mideval wedding invitation?

Congratulations! =)

Scrolls are perfect for medieval weddings.. coz that's their form of communication during the medieval times. But you can enhance that idea -- you can burn all the four sides of the scroll to give it an old, faded, medieval effect. It's beautiful coz i've done it before. Then make sure all your words in the invitation are also medieval.. squeeze in the concept of having Knights in your wedding, your parents as the King and Queen, and you're the princess who's getting married to the prince, etc. It's fun! I've thought of that before!

You can check out www.handykane.com. You'll see there what i'm talking about. =) Goodluck!

I would do a parchment proclamation. Get 30lb or higher paper and print it up on your computer in an Old English style font (it's not standard, but you can download it off the internet at http://www.1001fonts.com/fonts_overview.html?page=1&category_id=2

and then write up a proclamation of requestion the honor of their presence at this occasion. Have the ornate first letter and make it as authentic as possible. Let the ink dry on the invites for at least an hour. Then soak the paper in strong, cooled tea and then let them soak for 10 minutes then dry for an hour on a cookie cooling rack (leave a paper towel under them. When completely dry take a candle and use it to singe the edges of paper. Then fold in thirds and seal with your monogramed seal. Place in a standard parchment envelope or a standard one that was tea soaked (be careful of the seal), and address them with clear labels printed in the same font. These would be cheap and easy to do. Plus, they'll look better than what you can buy.

Good Luck!

Ahhh yes, we were going to do that too but ended up eloping to a JP. The scroll is a great idea but hard to mail so I would use parchment paper and either warm the edges and places throughout to turn it slightly brown and use that OR Use a computer graphic that shows a scroll opened to be read and enlarge it to page size. Print on parchment. Either way, don't use a computer font to print them, HAND calligraphy for the best effect.

Far as wording. Something such as

Hear Ye, Hear Ye
The house of Yates heir,
Sir Christopher Randolf Yate's
and
The house of Kentworth's daughter,
Lady Lizbeth Mercedes Kentworth
shall be united in marraige.

Your presence is requested to witness this union
at the Church of Our Mother
at
Eight O'Clock
on the
Seventh day of the seventh month in the year of our lord two thousand and seven.

I would word play it to fit your style but it gives you a general way to word...

Good Luck and Congratulations

Have a singing telegram , the medieval way, just like the announcements made by the kind and queen. Have the invite printed on a scroll and have someone deliver the message singing.

here's an idea.. or do it like a fairytale.. Cinderella style. You may also like to consider getting then etched in leather, and weathering the edges.. or a folded normal invitation sealed with a wax seal. That's a little mideval.

see if you like any of the links down in the sources. Another idea is find little mini knights in armor and princesses to mail with the scrolls. Good luck!

We did an ivory invitation with an elaborate gold border, then used a wax seal on the inner envelope- we got a custom wax seal from http://www.oldschoolseals.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=19

Parchment scrolls or parchment folded with the wax stamp (no glue, obviously) would fit most with the wedding theme.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! :)

I do feel that you're reflecting some sort of confusion rather than posing a question.
I hope you'll have what you're looking for at the end of the day

Good luck
