Before anyone states the obvious "reaching sexual maturity" answer. One of our dogs used to try and sh4g everything when he was a 3 month old pup, surely that isn't right.

The instinct is there long before the ability. After all, the sex drive is directly connected to survival of the species.

Think about old men. The desire remains long after the ability to perform has atrophied....

"Humping" in young puppies and in altered animals is NOT a sexual thing but rather a dominance issue. In order to dominate another animal and assert it's leadership role an animal will get on top of another. Sexual maturity, however can occur in toy/small breeds as early as 4 months and in giant breeds as late as 18 months to 2 years.

Even infant boy humans get erections. That does not mean they are sexually mature. Some are more aware of hormones earlier and some aren't. Most species are aware of their sexual being before they are mature enough to actually reproduce.

dogs can be on heat at certain times of the year thats why they want to try and sh*g everything on the planet lol they dont have to be a certain age for this you know

because they dont do it for pleasure and they only do it when their in heat. they dont sell it, buy it , abuse it, or steel it......and if your kealous that they can have sex and you cant just break out the hose! that always works
