the answer to that question would be a whole book. search through a basic microbiology textbook to get a feel for the subject. infections are generally caused by either viruses, bacteria, or parasites. insects are often vectors (carriers) for viruses and parasites (rarely bacteria). food, soil, and water generally can spread all three via gastrointestinal routes. human to human contact can cause viral and bacterial infections via many routes (ie respiratory, body fluid, mucous membrane contact, etc), and parasitic infections if you come in contact with human feces or rarely urine. then there is the whole prion thing with mad cow disease. and let's not forget transplacental infection from a pregnant woman to her fetus. that's it in a very, very small nutshell.

1. in man, kissing is one of the way which can transmits infection u can get a "kissing dse" (infectious mononucleosis).
2. in insects, specifically mosquitoes, u can get dengue haemorrhagic fever, and filariasis (elephantiasis) enlargement of the limbs and testicles.
3. in animals, like the pegion droppings, u can get fungal infections through inhalation.
4. in food, bacterial contamination causes food poisoning which is also infectious to man.
5. in soil, mainly parasitic worms are the cause. (ascaris/roundworm, enterobius/pinworm, hookworms-w/c can be transmitted through skin contact, etc.)
6. in water, also parasites like amoeba can infect humans.
