Wrong. If you mean by "racism" that people of different cultures and appearance are looked down on, stared at, cheated, ripped off and insulted to their faces and behind their backs, Asia is actually the most "racist" area of the world, rich and poor countries alike.

Does it occur to you that possibly it isn't racism if the same resentment is felt by all 'payers' into the system against all illegal 'drainers' of the system?

I can't speak for the Spanish, but for me it is only illegal immigrants I have a problem with, since the limits in our laws are supposed to protect our schools and services. To the extent they don't we would have to change our laws. In this case, however, all we have to do is enforce them.

I've had Ecuadorians and Colombians in my class, and the students have said that their peoples have been discriminated against in Spain. But it has little to do with the wealth of a nation. Racism exists everywhere; it crosses class, racial, and gender lines.

I found that people in Spain were accommodating, friendly, kind, and generous. Maybe it is you and not them.
