I am moving out in my first apartment and I just want some tips on things and some things that I would really need to buy to start off with. Thanks.

Be wise with the first things you buy because you never know how long you'll be keeping them and for what.
(don't waste money, pretty much)

Go to wholesalers, warehouses, clearance centers, etc., and look for slightly damaged or marked items. They're still perfectly usuable, usually, but might have a scratch or a little stain or whatever that you can totally cover up and live with!

Get a queen size mattress, or full, whichever you'd like to share with someone in the future, a frame is not necessary, just the box springs for now. (saves you at least 45.00). You can make a headboard yourself (so you won't have to buy a bed) with just about anything you'd want to hang or lean up on the wall behind the bed. Size doesn't matter, just as long as you like it. Be creative.
Get a big, soft comforter (your favorite relaxing color: cool tones), plenty of sheets (white is the cheapest and easiest to clean- just use bleach!!).
Get lots of clothes hangers (cheapest ones you can find).
A dresser with a mirror and a lyngerie chest are all that you might need for clothing. You can also store you clothes in the closet in a portable closet organizer.

A couch with a hide-a-bed is a plus for friends who might want to stay over, a coffee table to put goodies on and remotes, etc, when those friends watch movies with you, and a big TV is a definite must! You'll be bored out of your skull and friends might not want to watch movies on a 19"-er! ;) That's all you'll need for the living/family room. Lots of big blankets are good, too, for snuggling or lying on the floor, and lots of big, soft throw pillows are really popular.

The kitchen? Don't worry about a fancy table right now. Get whatever suits you for super super cheap. Get the ugliest, most durable one you can find, and just cover it with a nice linen!! Only 2-4 chairs are needed and get ugly, old, durable ones and buy slip-covers for those, too.

Get dishes at a second-hand store. People steal dishes and break them all the time. Not worth buying new ones, ever! Not till you're married and settled! Doesn't matter if they all match, but get fun colors to make them interesting.

Get lots of cheap, fun-colored towels and rags for you and future guests to use. You can never have enough of those around! (and while you're at it, stock up on TP and feminine products- some girl-friend or whoever will thank you a million times over for the save!!). Also, extra bar soap and shampoo are a must to start out with, toothpaste, extra toothbrushes, etc.

Full body-length mirrors are nice for anyone needing to see their full selves. Get one or two of those and put one in bathroom and one in a bedroom.

An extra twin bed doesn't hurt, with just a little chest of drawers.

For your school/computer/office stuff, just find a big, cheap, sturdy desk that you can cover with a sheet or whatever to hide it's ugliness and a regular kitchen chair (better for the back) with a pad for the seat to use as your desk chair. Nothing fancy. To hide clutter and lock away stuff to not get stollen get shelves with doors on them that can be padlocked. I really recommend this so you won't get cd's, dvd's, books and other valuables stollen (even best friends will walk off with stuff). Keep all this stuff in your office together.

Anyway, this is pretty much all you'll really need to start out with.

Have fun with it!

And don't be afraid to get BIG and BOLD and COLORFUL to spice things up a bit!!
