I need some original ideas to raise money for a children's charity, which helps young kids who care for parents/guardians. Things for groups of people to do (keep it clean) would be ideal and something fun which will encourage people to spend loads of money!! I'm a bit unimaginative so need some help! Thanks!!

who are your target audience?

I have done lots of fundraising in my time, depending on who you are targeting. I have organised a gig and an evening of sophistication. If your target audience are the children themselves, why dont you hire out a field get some hay bales and have a messy day...have a BBQ for the grown ups, just let the kids go crazy in the mud and water and roll around the hay bales...they'll have heaps of fun and you could raise loads of money.

Sometimes marathons (walk-a-thons, jog-a-thons, bike-a-thons, etc.) do well if the contenders can get enough sponsors to make worthy and verifiable contributions.

There are also the traditional fundraisers like carnivals, candy sales, bake sales, car washes, banquets (where each plate costs a set price), raffles, craft sales / craft faires, ice cream socials, bingo parties, dances/balls, auctions, grant monies, philanthropists / philanthropic organizations, community and civil organization contributions, foundations, etc.

Perhaps you should inquire within your peers and co-workers, and find out if any of them have an previous experience with grant preparation. If someone were to write a satisfactory grant proposal, your organization might become more financially stable.

These are just some ideas. I've included some basic links in my sources which are listed below for your review. I hope something I've said here helps you and your charity. Cheers, and good luck.

My wife and sisters organised a fund raiser for children with cystic fibrosis. They hired a hall(cost £40) laid on simple buffet food donated by friends and relatives, had raffles and tombola. The prizes were donated by various companies and individuals.Admission was £10.The bar was all donated booze. Didn't need a licence as people bought drink tickets away from bar area.
Contacted all family and friends and generally spread the word.
Great success on the night, raised about £4,500.

A silent auction for donated goods, a car boot sale, bake cookies, have the children make bracelets/hairbands and sell them door to door, sponsored dog walks, window cleaning, grass cutting, have other members of the charity cook something and charge people to come, mingle and eat.....
Good Luck!

Maybe not exciting but a good money spinner - bag packing in your local supermarket (the bigger the better, and try it around Christmas!). It aways work for us!

have everyone give you their favorite recipes and turn them into a book to sell. if you are good on the computer you can do almost all of it yourself to help keep the cost down
