London is flooded with tourists all year round, but in the summer it is a nightmare as they just get in the way all the time, they may have all the time in the world but some people don't, I make sure that if I am visiting a new place I don't get in the way of the people that live there, and I respect their towns instead of throwing litter around, tourists drive me mad!!!

Try coming from a rural tourist area, not only do the tourists behave in exactly the manner you have described but they bring CARAVANS! Caravans block up the roads especially the counry roads leading to the caravan site. You have to be in the shops early in the morning if you want to hav any anity left after doing the food shopping or if you want to be able to buy half of the stuff you need (bread and milk being the classics!). They clog up the roads and towns and have NO consideration for locals. Its as if they leave their brains at home!

Rant over, for now!

They stand in the way and stare at things, sometimes I can't even figure out what. And they seem to forget that people are living their lives and aren't part of the tourist attraction. I am Canadian but live in Copenhagen and they just don't pay attention. I can't get by them on the street some times because they are walking sooo slow. We ride bikes a lot here and they alway stand in the way of bikes!

The thing I really hate is when they compare their country to the one they are visiting and get upset because something is different (usually Americans). I don't get it because i traval a lot and I like to blend in and try and live in that culture.

Yeah I don't know how you can live in London. I went for a few days because I was thinking of moving there but it was too crazy.

I think people need to understand that they are guests in someone elses country and should act like a well manored guest.

Oh but I do have to mention that in Canada we had lots of tourists get killed or injured because they would try and pet bears and moose on the side of the road. I think they deserve it for being so stupid.

My Answer is going to be controversial, but with some of the american tourists the problem is that they are incredibly loud, generally arrogant and annoying and absolutely they seem to get in the way and have absolutely no consideration for other people. No Basic Manners. If they are in a shop or a restaurant they often do not seem to imagine for a second that there may be other people who need to be served or seen to, and they want to have all the time in the world to simply think and make a decision while other people around them, well, other people around them do not seem to exist in the minds of some of these people.!!

What a good question!

I agree they can be annoying especially in Cornwall. They think that they own the place, park where they want, make as much noise as they want, push theirway through, throw litter out of their cars and/or on the floor rather than using the bins when provided. They don't signal when pulling in to a parking space, they go around at 0.4mph like a snail on go slow.

Then they decide they like the area so much that they want to move down here. Then when they do move they get a job and live happily ever after. Where as others who live in the area and have done all their lives can't afford to even purchase a house because the prices are to high because they keep going up and up because of others buying from further up the line. Then the people who live down here can't get job because they go to the older person from further up who has just bought a property in Cornwall with more experience.

I could go on....but I would be here all day.

But then again they probably think that when we go on holiday.

I live in New York City. First let me say that I welcome tourists. They are genuinely interested in seeing the city and they contribute to the local economy. But here's one very annoying thing that some (not all) tourists do: When they are trying to find a place (usually by pointing in all different directions, looking at a map or tour book) -- they stand right in the middle of a busy sidewalk. So annoying! People, simply stand off to the side next to a building. Sheesh!

I live in RI and Newport, RI is flooded with tourists every year and they are great for the economy and you know we get people from all over the world and you know what - keep coming - they are people - they do stupid things - but nothing so bad that I feel a need to whine about them. I am sure the person who wrote this question is no where near as considerate of others as she is letting out when she goes on vacation. Give it a rest.

The worst thing is their lack of respect for where they visit and people who do live there. I can understand that visiting somewhere that they have always dreamed of and how it can be an overwhelming experience. But they need to remember not to be loud, think about those people that live there, don't litter and consider what the cultural differences are that they need respect.

I think the most annoying thing is that because London is such a tourist hotspot, it makes it hugely expensive for us Londoners to go out and about in London.

They also attract crime as they are easy targets for muggers and pick pockets and they carry large sums of money and valuables around with them.

Annoying is that they came from another country, different culture and tend to behave/live the way they were back home. They forget 'when in Rome, do as the Romans do'.

Then again, they are important to the economy of the tourist destinations.

Live with it (them), I guess :-)

The litter part really really bothers me. Its like "OK, I'm going to pay for a $3,000 plain ticket to come to your home and trash it while getting a tan". My mom is from a small island in the U.S. Whenever I went there it would kill me to see a Styrofoam cup floating in the water when there are plenty of easy access trash cans available. Would it really kill a person to walk no more than 3 feet to a trash can before entering the water?
