I have a Belgian Malinois and I can't say one bad thing about it. I love her sooo much, she is by far the greatest dog that I have ever seen. they are used for police work and also guard. I wouldn't get this type of dog if you can't really pay attention to them or pay a lot for them also. I got mine for about $3500 and that is trained and that means when you want to teach them something they learn really quickly. If you don't like this then I would say a German Shepard or a dobermen. A German Shepard is a little aggresive at all times, because of its structure and attitude, so when playing with it, the dog can literally get you of your feet. A dobermen I think is not good for a regular family dog as their attitudes can change quickly and they are a little big. If your looking for a family dog then Labrodor is the best dog for that. I have a black male and he is just wonderful with everybody, toddlers, kids, adults, strangers, other dogs just a really playful and fun dog. Good luck on the dog you choose and hope it does what your looking for. Make sure that you treat the dog as your child or a family member because then it would do the same.

First of all, does your daughter like dogs or is she scared of them? If she is, then i would suggest that there is someone who can control the dog when nobody else is around in the house.
However, if you are only looking at a guard dog point of view and will let the dog loose in the compound when you go out and then put it on aleash when you get back home, then i would suggest a dobermann,BUT ONLY AS A GUARD DOG and not as a family dog,as they are prone to moods and will only obey one master almost always.
But if your daughter also likes dogs and can handle them, i would suggest a labrador first and my second choice would be a german shepherd.
all this is from my experience of raising a wide range of pedigreed dogs and all of them irrespective of behaviour and levels of ferociousness were treated like family members.
So gud luck with ur your choice and hope you make a good one as a dog is not only a man's but also a WOMAN'S BEST FRIEND.

I never advocate the use of gaurd dogs for a private residence as if the dog bites anyone you could find yourself being sued. However I have a St Bernard which although bigger than most dogs makes a prefecr Watchdog so will deter anyone form approaching your house day or night, even due to its size and not its barking, it will only accept people it knows onto or into your property but has the temprement not to bite, unless its owners /s are in danger then it would defend them

The best dog is also the most dangerous for your own family members. It's a pitbull in my opinion. They are very territorial, heavy, have very strong necks and jaws, and are loud and scary.
I don't like dogs with long narrow mouths because somebody with the know-how can get lucky and grab its lower jaw leaving your guard dog limp in their grasp. Nonetheless cops use such dogs, so they're probably another good choice.
A pair of dogs will bond less with people and would be very intimidating for an intruder in my opinion. But that'll be a lot of dog food :D

Labradors and Shepherds are excellent, relatively clean, smart, loyal, and can be exceedingly vicious to an attacker. I'd stay away from the pit bulls, dobermans, and the like, if for no other reason than the stigma that surrounds them. I don't know whether or not they are prone to attacking people unprovoked, but one thing I do know is that I've never heard of a Lab or a German Shepherd trying to eat a baby.

Don't waste time and money hunting for the best dog. Maintaining special breeds is a costly affair. A good 'local' dog should do the job with proper training.

Labradors are great family dogs. But are not good guard dogs. They are friendly towards strangers too. Great danes are good with children and are good guard dogs. If you are in India, I would suggest you to get a Rajapalayam. It is a very good watch/guard dog and bonds closely with the family. Maintanence is almost nil compared to other imported breeds. They don't shed much. and they are beautiful.

You don't take help of dog to guard your house. I think you are the best to guard your house. Because our work should be done by our self.
