In the ancient Vedic literatures, detailed knowledge of the soul or self is found, for example the Katha Upanishad relates that within the body, higher than the senses and the sense objects, exists the mind. More subtle than the mind is the intelligence, and higher and more subtle than the intellect is the soul or self. That self is existing in all beings and is perceived by subtle seers through their sharp intellect and purity in devotion to the Supreme Lord.

The Chandogya Upanishad goes on to explain that the self is free from birth, disease, old age, death and all forms of bodily identification.

So, the spiritual body, the symptom of which is consciousness is constituted of eternality, knowledge and bliss(Sat-Cit-Ananda) in the purified state of being.

It is not material in any way. It is what departs from the body at the time of death, it is individual, personal and the natural position of the soul or self is eternal devotion to the Supreme soul or God.

Our 'soul' is that part that exists spritually and which survives after our physical death.

You can think of your soul as your spiritual identity.

What is the soul made up of? Thats a very good question, my best answer would be that your soul is made up of spirit.

Hmmm I don't really know but I think (based on several things I've heard and guessing), that it made up of energies, experiences and feelings.

i am a muslim and i believe
at least thats what i have been told by my grandma
is that
soul is light
a pure form of energy
which cannot be created
it just moves from one place to another
it's a part of God (whome we call Allah)
he has breathed it in us and
eventually it shall return to him

inalillah-he-wa-i-na-elaye-hi-raji-oon
that's what we say whenever we hear someone has passed away
its arabic
i dont know its literall meaning
but i know that it refers to the fact that
"He has created everything, and everything shall return to Him"
