Well, here in Santa Monica, California, there is an ongoing problem with raw sewage not getting dissolved properly and polluting the beaches every now and then. A lot of people get sick every year--nausea, vomiting, diarrhea--on account of swimming in contaminated water.
I read in the Santa Monica Daily Press--a free newspaper--that every year it costs the city about $2 million in hospital fees to treat those who get sick because of unclean beaches.

Primary Amoebic Encephalitis -no treatment. Worst part is not knowing you have it. All cases were only diagnosed post mortem........
