“Are you ever interested in the customs of different people?”

Kasha, if you are not interested with the culture of other countries than yours, is it so surprising that I do ?

You can ask this question for many countries or places in the world and the amount of "claimed" Christians will be much much higher than any other religion. The reason why is that for one the Jewish religion is tied very closely to their culture and they naturally inherit their beliefs through their parents, so it doesn't have the same multiplication factor that Christians do with word of mouth. On the other hand, people who convert to or claim to be Muslim more often than not strictly follow their beliefs much more than other people of other religions, so you have a few that claim to be Muslim who really are devout Muslims.

The reason why that all makes a difference is because in the United States especially, a large amount of people claim to be Christian because their parents were, or because they went to church once, or because they "believe in the Bible" but have never read it. Most the people claiming to be Christian really look at it more as a description like "funny, nice, cool to be with" instead of a 100% lifestyle.

So, sorry for the long winded answer lol but basically the reason why Christianity will be highest on any poll is because everyone and their brother claims to be a Christian without being any different from the athiest guy sitting next to them.

Ever wonder about how you can make a difference in the world?

Are you ever interested in the customs of different people?

I wonder why you need these statistics.

Surely you can find this out from a census bureau - if you are in fact really interested.

Are you thinking of choosing or changing your religion?

Assuming you really are curious - as of 2002:

The religions of the United States - Protestant 52%, Roman Catholic 24%, Mormon 2%, Jewish 1%, Muslim 1%, other 10%, none 10%
