Boxing is a sport were two people try to out guess each other at trying to get a shot in. Street fighting is more based on survival, most street fighters aren't very good unless they know how to box some. Karate taught me how to hit harder in boxing and street fighting. Like hamster said though Judo is a hard thing to beat because they wrap you up and use your strength against you. It's like you swing at them and they'll not only dodge or deflect it but will use your arm to flip you, plus they are good at fighting real close to you so it's hard to hit them but they'll twist you up. Boxing teaches you how to take a hit which is very important in fighting of any kind.

Yes and no. Boxing, despite what many ignorant ppl say, is very effective in a "street fight" as long as you know what your objectives are: quick strikes at openings given for the knockout. If you come in with the mentality to wear down your opponent then no, b/c the brawlers tend to go crazy and sooner than you think the fight will go to the ground, which is probably out of your area of expertise.
But don't concern yourself with the cliches about "street fights have no rules". There are always rules in any fight, though not always spoken, ppl know them as the "appropriateness of the situation." For example, if you were in a bar fight you would generally know that biting someone in the neck until they die is not appropriate for the situation, then that in itself is a "rule". Basically, street fights have less rules than a combat sport but has rules nonetheless.

very different.
Boxing is a sport. There are rules. There is protective gear.
The punches are pure power. (The glove increases the surface area and diffuses the power. this leaves only the force of the hit which leads to brain rattle over years of fighting.)
Bare fists behave much differently than boxing gloves. In the old days when people boxed bare knuckle boxing looked very different. In bare knuckle many of the knock outs are from the accumulation of pain instead of blunt trauma. The mouth piece also absorbs knock causing force in boxing.
Boxers also use only hands. Even more limiting they are only allowed to hit with the front quarter of the glove ( no backfists, foreknuckle, hammer fists or open hand techniques.)
Also, Boxing has a ring, time limit, officials, corner crew and gambling (which greatly influences the winner I believe.)

Boxing is different because in boxing you can only use your hands. In regular fights you may use words and anything else you want to use.
Boxing also has rules.

Yeah, If you tried to box in a street brawl, you'd get "served".
Some of the techniques are useful, such as putting your wieght behind a cross, but things like jabs and foot work are totally wortless.
Judo is supposed to be the best fighting style to use outside of a ring.

Yes. There are rules, ethics, and people to enforce said limitations. Street fights are lawless, full of cheap shots and uncontrolled brutality. Boxing depends on agility, strategy, opportunity, and stamina. It's a whole different thing entirely.

yes definitely. Boxing has rules and regulations and a referee to stop the fight. A regular fight only stops when one is already dead or unconscious and no referee to stop it, lots of people around watching and putting bets on who loses or dies.

Yes big difference.
There are rules in boxing.
I don't think that it is possible to fight dirty in a streetfight, i mean you are fighting. Even bruce lee would kick you in the balls, thats fighting. the only rule in street fighting is cover your head if you go down.

You can't gauge a persons eye out, tear off their testicles, or break their bones with a ajui-jitsu hold. which are pretty much the best ways to win a street fight.
