I want people to have a good laugh at my funeral. I will be with my Lord, healthy and happy, leaving all my cares and woes behind. That is worth celebrating. So, when my coffin s raised onto the shoulder of the bearers, ready to be taken out to where I will be buried, I want them to play "The Ying Tong Song" by The Goons.

"The Dream Remembered" By Laurie Anderson. It's hauntingly beautiful and a lesson about living in the present, not the past.

Part of the lyrics:

"History is an angel
being blown
backward into the future
History is a pile
of debris
And the Angel wants to go back
to fix things
to repair the things that have been broken
But there is a storm
blowing
from paradise
and the storm keeps blowing
the angel
backwards
into the future

And this storm
This storm
is called
progress"

(pardon me if I didn't write it in the same structure Laurie Anderson used. I phased it as it's rythmically phrased in the song)

Funny I came across this question. I just finished burning an mp3 I want played during my wake and another cd during the funeral - they're all my favorite songs from Madonna to the oldies from the 80s and 70s. A few new wave and discos, lots of Luther Vandross and Bryan McKnight love songs and a few songs that really hit close to heart of those I'll leave behind.

I want Tracey Chapman's song "Say Hallelujah" played. The chorus goes:

"Say Hallelujah
Throw up your hands
The bucket is kicked
The body is gone"

and my favorite following verse is:

"Have mercy
It's a wonderful life
Eternal rest for the weary
Mourners party tonight"

It's an upbeat song, not a sad one.

I can't stand it when people are sad so I want a lot of the money I leave over to be used to throw a party for everybody to celebrate my newest big adventure.

I want to be cremated and my wife and I have decided that whichever one of us left is going to keep the ashes of the first one and then when the second one of us dies we'll mix our ashes together and spread them several different places.

I've thought alot about this, I quite fancy having a silent ceremony with loads of candles and starting with "Dark was the night" by Blind Willie Johnson and followed by either "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd or The Stabat Mater which is a really morose classical piece.

Good choice!

For me, 'who wants to live forever' by Queen and 'a toute le monde' by Megadeth.. both songs that whilst suitably sad, also have a small gem of happiness and hope.

I discussed this once with a friend - he said he wanted 'I am the resurrection' by the Stone Roses, which I also think is a good call, although it makes promises maybe he cant keep!

For the love of my life it would be undoubtedly 10 story love song by The Stone Roses as I know it would put a smile on his face...
For my entrance to the church it would have to be Kate Bush The Jig of Life.
And for leaving the church it would definitely be Rock n Roll By Led Zeppelin...
