I'm assuming you had 2 hard-drives on the same IDE cable set as Master / Slave and that your Master failed. You've replaced it with another hard-drive which has been set to slave.
You will first need to change this hard-drive to be the Master. Otherwise your hard-drives won't function. You can't have a Slave / Slave setup.
Then get your XP cd and reinstall your OS on the computer for which it is intended. You can't, generally, transfer a hard-drive from one computer to another and expect the Windows XP to work.
If you can't get hold of XP, try Linux. Ubuntu LTS, is really cool!

Never read such a load of old bollox in my life.
Just remove or unplug internally the original hard drive and boot from your recovery disk. It really doesn't matter whether your jumper settings are set to slave or master - when you have only one hard drive, it will be recognised within the BIOS as the only drive anyway.
Amazing how some people are so full of sh1t.

Set the jumpers on the slave drive to the "master" setting. Then you will have to reinstall the OS.........it is the only way it can be done. I advise replacing the slave drive because sounds like you are using a RAID hard drive system configuration in your computer.

You can't.
You have to bring your Slave hard-disk to other computer and install OS. Then put back to your own PC.

You will need to do a full re-install. If you have access to another PC, put your slave drive in that, virus check it, scandisk it and then back-up any data you have on that disk. Then put it back in your original machine and do a fresh install.
