So tonight I'm talking with my fiancé on the phone..(we live in different countries)..all of a sudden the phone is hung up..(he's on his cell)..I call back 3 times and don't get an answer. Hours after, I get a call from him..He's been arrested for possession. Now he used to be addicted to drugs, he's been clean for couple years now. I say to him...wtf, you had drugs on you? (he knows drugs are my deal breaker) He says, no, he didn't have anything, they planted them. Knowing what he is addicted to, I asked him what kind of drugs he was charged with...he says he doesn't know yet..IF this was true and he was just talking with me on the phone…would they have gone after him?..He didn’t sound pissed off or anything….does this sound funny to anyone else or is it just my suspicious mind at work? I’m not sure with the way of things in the States, which is why I’m asking on here. One more thing..he said he'd be locked up for a week or two..is THAT normal for there?.seems a bit extensive to me?

You're a smart lady that has life experiences and it should be pretty clear that he's lying to you. None of his excuses make any sense at all. He was caught and there's a story behind it, one that you don't know because of the distance between you, but he not only lies to you, he lies to everyone else in his life as well. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear.

You have choices to make. The choices will affect your life more than it does his. It has alot to do with where you want to be in a relationship a few years from now, the type of person you want to be with, your sense of inner pride that you've allowed the right person into your life as a meaningful 'other'.

Drugs take hold of people in ways they just can't walk away from it like reading a bad book. The drugs and lies will continue, either with you or someone else. But they will continue.

He's in the United States?

Is he a member of some group that isn't well-liked by police wherever he was (like maybe a black guy in Compton?)

If they had any reason to believe that he had drugs on them (a tip from an old acquaintance, perhaps?), they might have gone after him.

I'm utterly shocked that they let him make an international call from jail. Or did they let him call from his cell phone? I know I'd be pissed as all hell if somebody arrested me for drugs I wasn't carrying, but that's just me.

If he'd had prior offenses, he might get locked up for a period of time....but for posession only, I've heard of people getting booked and released the same day.

It all depends on what they got him for.

where is "there" sweetheart? u never said what country he is in. but i will tell you that in THIS country, it's very rare that you are minding your own business on the phone, then get arrested for possession, then be home in a few hours. lol. either he is using drugs as an excuse for something else he is into (or someone else :)....or that is a very different kind of country he is in. good luck.

He is lying to you. Sounds as if there was a warrant for his arrest already and he was spotted. They would not search for drugs until they had arrested him, and for most misdemeanor possession charges they only hold you for 24 hrs if you cannot bond. Then they give you a court date and send you on your way. Sounds to me as if they were looking for him for previous charges and now has no bail till he appears in court. Find a new boyfriend.
