Its hard for me to remember scriptures, but I keep a note, or a highlight so I can look through my bible and find it. Sometimes will make a note on a paper, and search it, and try to remember it over and over.
Just write it down, see it, repeat it to yourself. Wait, then after a while, review, and keep going till you remember it. And if you still can't remember it, try to make a song, or attach it to something in your brain that you can remember it by.

The reason to memorize is so that you can know the truth when you see it and thereby know lies when you see them. People studying to recognize counterfeit money look only at real money so that they can spot counterfeit right away. If you have God Word "hidden in your heart", you'll know false teaching immediately.
I really don't mean this to sound as insulting as it does, but there's no easy way to say it. I think that saying you have a poor memory is simply an excuse. My 3 year old daughter memorizes a verse about every other week. We have been doing this since her birthday and she now know about 15 verses (and yes, she can still say the old ones too).
Do what works to help you - read it over and over, print it out on a 3X5 card and tape it to your steering wheel or bathroom mirror, challenge a friend to memorize with you so you have someone to hold you accountable, program it into your MP3 player so that you can hear it over and over, repeat it to yourself frequently throughout the day, etc.

It isn't necessary to memorize verses, but it is more important to read and understand it at the time you are reading it. Memorization may be good for some, but not all.
And for those who have poor memory - you have a great gift of rediscovering and learning anew the very same verses that someone else memorized.
I say don't worry about it, but just continue to read. And you will find that over time you will remember verses without memorizing them because you will have added understanding to what you've read rather than just committing the words to memory.
Just read and enjoy!

Yes it is very important to memorise. The purpose is to have the verse in your heart for reference and to meditate upon even when you are not consciously doing so and is also supposed to act as a reservoir which the soul draws upon at all times.
Try memorising short verses first thing in the morning and see how that goes.
As an alternative make some small cards (business card size) and write the verse for each day, carry the card with you and read at different times during the day.
Be blessed

well. You know what? If you quote it out of context, it means nothing anyway. this is why I, lmbo at atheists. They have no clue as to what they are quoting. They read a verse and run with it. hahahaha
Yes, you probably could just explain it on your own. But remember this.........
YOUR words and YOUR version is NOT the Word of God.
The Word of God, is Truth. Truth convicts with the "hearing" of the Word. You don't need to learn very many. Write a few down, carry it in your purse. Practice on here, read some verses and post them. You only get better by what? Practice :)
Good Luck.

Remember the times when life takes your breath away. Remember the verses that take your breath away. You don't have to memorize every single verse to prove your good. Just remember the ones you believe in. The lord will know your heart and he knows what you need. DOn't worry. hope this was helpful ^^

Memorising helps you recall it when you need it and don't have a concordance handy.
I'm not actively memorising, but through study you can usually remember around about where something is and what it says... like I am sure you can tell someone the story of Daniel and the Lions - and know aroundabout where it is in the Bible. Sometimes that's all you need.
