There isn't really an "average" salad because of the amazingly huge and growing variety of things to put on, unless you simply mean lettuce...and just lettuce. A homemade salad, which you may consider "average" would probably contain less calories than that of an "average" McDonalds salad - many less, infact.

depends on what type of dressing used, but if you use the salad spritzers stuff, you can have a salad that equals out to about only 40 Cal.!
