Sikh people are contributing to each and every field of the society. They are holding some of the highest positions in industry , govt , defence services and public sector companies. But they are very much humiliataed in all public social gatherings , bollywood and even on internet. We enjoy much of Sardar's jokes. Should we take it that still our community is not mature enough ? Even if we observe the behaviour of other countries they respect Sikhs very much. Even some of the countries identify Indians by Sikhs only. Have you ever seen any sikh beggar ? I think it is the time to grow up and behave in much more matured manner towards this very hard working and co-operative community.

On the contrary, Sikhs are highly respected in India. What you are referring to is 'jokes on Sikhs', as if a person with a turban is an innocent fool who lacks common sense while behaving in normal life. Well, my dear friend, it is all joke for the sake of joke. And most of these jokes are made by Sikhs on themselves. Sikh people are necessarily very hilarious and open-hearted people who can openly laugh on themselves. Dr. Khuswant Singh, the renowned English writer has been making hundreds of new jokes every week. You know he also collects such jokes in a famous column in the famous newspapers in India. Please try to understand these in proper spirit, and take everything as a joke. The serious part of your question remains that they are a great people of whom India is proud and without whose mention the history of India will remain incomplete. They are one of the most enterprising and hardworking people in India who tolerated the humiliation of the Muslim rulers with a smile but fought to the hilt to defend their dignity till the end. We Indians have not forgotten that Guru Govind Singh's two sons were pasted alive on the wall for their refusal to accept Islam as their faith. We, Indians will never forget that father of Guru Govind Singh, Guru Teg Bahadur Singh was beheaded in Delhi by the Muslim Emperor for his refusal to accept Islam. So, how can you say that in India and Indian movies Sikhs are not respected.

Sikhs are not humiliated in India..

They are fighters and soldiers and we have a too many of them in our army and even as PM and President. And we respect them.

You are saying this just on basis of Santa Banta Jokes?
Then blondes in US can say the same thing that blondes in US are humiliated. After all blonde jokes are too common there.

Its really not a good thing but Sikh are not the only ones getting jokes at their own expense.

They are so many jokes on Pandits and Brahmans that are not in the least complimentary.

Thakurs often get the same treatment like sikhs and mostly its a Nai which proves to be smarter in such jokes.

Bihari get ridiculed today, despite their glorious past.

So its not only your problem.

There is an odd thing about jokes , people like them when target is some other person, but seldom enjoy it when they themselves are being targeted.

Sikh jokes are seemingly seem to be more just because Santa singh and Banta singh jokes have caught the internet or SMS popularity. And many Sikhs are humour loving people and tell these jokes themselves so people think they do not mind.

Anyway I do never tell such jokes nor I encourage them.

If sikhs are humiliated in our country we ppl will not be safe sleeping at homes because most of the soldiers in our country are sikhs..Do u think they will be in highest positions in all the fields if they are outcasted or humiliated? And regarding the sardar jokes..Only in south its called sardar jokes but in north it is madrasi jokes..I very much agree with u that they are a vary hardworking,co-operative community..I am also happy to hear that there are no sikh beggers...
We indians respect all religions and we dont humiliate any community in particular..So pl dont feel so...

Yes, Some sikhs are contributing in many fields, but I think at times their hostile attitude makes people angry towards them and so they get humiliated.

Most of the sikhs have one thing in common that's their very hostile, and " I am the boss attitude" which makes them look like STUPIDS at times. Only because of their BOSSY attitude most of the people in India, believe they are the one's to crack a joke on.

Anyway, Some of them are exceptions, they are less funny then other Sikhs. But, one thing i must add on - Sardar jokes are the greatest humor source to us..

Two things to clarify, no one identifies indian by sikhs only and I myself has seen many sikh beggars.

As i went through the many answers being put on this question... i feel the person who put this question would be happily satisfied by now. i would like to say that teasing a commutiny on various grounds is a common phenomenon in india, which doesnt mean that we dont respect that community or we avoid them. we should understand we are a very diverse country and this kind of teasing can be even noticed in our own homes.. for example we tease some one for eating and enjoying ladoos by calling him a ladoo ar some thing like that. does that mean we dont like them. coming to sikhs, indians are proud of you coz we know a member from each family of ur homes defend the unity, integrity an the teritory of our great land. how can we ever imagine an india without you.... but that doesnt mean ppl wont tease a sikh.... but let it be..... u become more and more known to the younger generation by jokes.... later on they will know ur contributions to this country.... alls in the game... so cheers buddy... be cool

I agree with you that Sikhs are very respectable & they have contributed a lot especially to the armed forces. I think you have a problem with the jokes. But the jokes dont mean to humiliate anyone. I hav so many Sikh friends who themselves crack Sardar jokes. This shows a great side to them , the ability to laugh at oneself. And jokes are on so many communities- ppl from bihar(bhaiyyas), South India(madrasis), Parsis(bawas), etc. These jokes typically stereotype a large group of ppl, like marwaris are kanjoos(misers). Pls dont take them seriously.

India is the country of diversity. It is just like a big family where many societies of different kind exhist. & sikhs are one of those community. See in one family as a fun other family member make a fun of other & after that all are one. In difficult situations like war & natural calamities all indians are always one. So dont think that way that sikhs are humuliated in India. its your misconception.

I think every human, sikh, or not , is someone precious. Yes, you will have these jokers who make fun of certain cultures/people. Bottomline, I believe that Sikhs, as you mentioned, are very respectable in every manner. Just ignore those jokers, and be positive. cheers!

If they feel that they are humiliated they should better check themselves.
Sikhs habitually act as they are superior - which they are not - that is the reason they get kicks and humiliation.
Toady Sikhism means going to GURUDAWARAs only. They just do not follow the teachings of their GURUs.
It is said " One hand of the sikh is on your neck & other will hold your foot - When sikh wants a favour will press your feet and the moment favour is given will break your neck."
Next point Sikhs are organise beggers just analyse them and see yourself.
One must understand that "The simple principle of life is If you want/earn respect respect others."
