Never ask anyone what kind of wine you should drink. Just get one and try it. If you like it, drink it. If you don't, try another one. Keep a list of what you like and what you don't like. There is only one rule for drinking wine: Drink what YOU like.

I like white, b/c I like the delicate taste (although you can get some that are quite bold), b/c it goes with a lot of different foods, and it doesn't give me a headache...
Red wine is very healthy for you (a glass a day, not like 6 or 7) so I wish I liked it more, but the tannins tend to give me a headache after I drink it.

It completely depends on what you are eating and what your palate likes. For me, it is white wine normally and regularly a Riesling. However, there are some really great, complex red wines out there that are amazing that I really enjoy. Try some of both and you'll quickly figure out which wines you like and whch you don't.

Red Wines are more versatile, coz you could get a light red like a Beaujolais to pair with seafood and appetizers, and Shiraz wines for red meats...

Red wines can also be drunk slightly chilled, and tastes nice in some cocktails...

It is more elegant and good for exploration!

although i this his response was a "bit" crass, i agree with the guy who said to just go with what you like. many women prefer whites because they are (typcially) more fruity and flavorful. so i, too, can not say which one is favorable. after i acquired the taste of wine, i can drink just about any of them w/o twisting up my face. but i can list good "starter" wines. i started drinking white zinfindal, reisling and piesporter. never can go wrong with those. if you are not into spending a bunch per bottle, but still like a rich flavor, try Australian wines. they are very tastey for the price. Alice White my favorite Austraulian brand...try "Lexia." sweet and potent :)

It depends on the meal and on the person's preference.

I like red wines myself, but they tend to make angry drunks out of people ;)
