God gives us freewill, the ability to choose right or wrong. Then if we choose wrong, he punishes us by sending us to hell. Realistically nobody can truly know the consequences of their actions. We cannot truly understand what it is to go to Hell. In fact god allows us to believe hell doesn't exist. We are like children to him and cannot truly understand for ourselves why we must do what he says. He is powerful enough to prevent us from making the wrong choice, and powerful enough to prevent us from having a choice. So why is it our fault if we make the wrong one?

Think about it this way.
If you give a 6 year old a gun, and tell him not to shoot himself with it. The kid cannot truly be expected to understand why he cannot. Therefore if he shoots himself with it, the blame falls on us for giving him the choice in the first place.

So what right does god have to punish us for something that is his fault in the first place?

You are correct that we are given free will. That free will also allows us to recognize right from wrong. People know that if they do wrong, they are going to be punished. That is not hard to understand.

As for your example, it is a ridiculous one because how many people are stupid enough to give a 6 year old a loaded gun???? Other then you I mean!!

Good question.

If you believe what the bible says, we are being punished for the crimes of Adam and Eve. Although we have free will, a truly great thing no matter what religion you follow, the bible says we should follow God's rules if we want to go to heaven. The rules aren't asking that much of us anyway. He gives us the choice as a test. If we had nothing to tempt us, then we would all go to heaven, and we wouldn't really have free will. We wouldn't have the option to be free.

Something else to think about:
If you never teach your child about guns, if he never sees a gun, if he never hears about a gun, and he goes through life without a gun, then one day someone points a gun at him, how will he know that it is bad?

The knowledge is there so we have the choice. If we didn't, then we wouldn't know what was right and what was wrong. We have to have both, or we wouldn't know the difference. What is a good deed if you don't have a bad one to compare it to? If we had no war, then how would we know just how wonderful peace can be?
This goes beyond Christianity, it's all religions. There exists a balance in everything in this world for a reason.

You waited all that time to keep this going? Wow, you have no life. You CAN know what hell is like, it is vividly and accuratley described in the Bible. God NEVER allows you to believe it doesnt exist, whered that idea come from?

Its your fault you make the wrong choices because your are sinful, you are flesh not spirit (you wont get that unless you read the Bible), you dont follow what he teaches, you turn from him, go your own way, and make the wrong CHOICES. There are rules and when you break them, there are consequences. You CHOOSE to break them, you choose to hear but not listen, look but not see.

If I give my 6 year old a gun, Im an idiot. God does not expect 6 year olds to get it (even though they do), he expects you as an ADULT to understand it. ALL the information is there.

It is not his fault, it is yours and yours alone. You are an adult, with all the knowledge you need to make a sound desicion. You make it, you live with the reward, or the consequences.

Or, does it just make you feel better to act like a 6 year old and place blame on someone else, instead of act like an adult and take reponsibility for your own actions?

You have an innate understanding of right and wrong. Everyone - except the mentally incapacitated does.

I've never met an atheist that considers themselves a bad person - do you?

As an atheist, you have absolutely no excuse for not living for yourself 100% of the time. Your life is short and the only thing that should matter to you is your own satisfaction since you have no afterlife to look forward to. You must be a sociopath.
Yet every athiest EVERY ONE is ultra conscious of their actions - and how they treat others - often to the disgrace of Christians. This is a revelation of their innate ability to reason right from wrong.

Admit it - you're more afraid of the death you deny than anyone else - otherwise why would you ask so many questions ;)

oh my goodness Batman, i do hope you are just very young, and not just mentally challenged,

rather than answer your questions that are so unintelligent, (no offense)

I will say what is important for you to think on,
first ,, God, the source, the highest power, energy, whatever you call it,,
THIS GOD, invented you, that is why you are here, you were intentional, with every feature, every line, every hair, the color, your eyes, your ears, and all the other parts that make you unique, and wonderful and a gift for others who love you,
that you should be grateful for,
what right has GOD TO PUNISH US?
i do not believe he " punishes us" if so, you would have been long gone, erraced, and me too,
Next;
About him being powerful enough to prevent us from making wrong choices, then he would not have given us a brain of our own, you can't have it both ways,
and if that were the case , you would be as a piece of furniture, a doll, a non thinking , object, yet you have your own mind..
do you enjoy ice cream,? CANDY, STEAK, RIDING A BIKE, GOING TO THE BATHROOM ALONE? (hope so)
ANYWAY= if he did not allow you freedom, you would be a sorry "object," A TOY, OR WHATEVER,
Why exist, if you can not think for yourself, or think,,like a person who is brain dead,,
You seem like you want to do what you want, no rules, and if the rules are broken it is Gods fault,
Hey Batman , there are rules everywhere, the law of the universe, of life, and there are consequences for not going in the "universal flow" FOR ALL LIFE FORMS, ANIMALS, PLANTS, HUMANS, WHATEVER..

RE THE STATEMENT OF GIVING A SIX YEAR OLD A GUN, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SIX YEAR OLD AND ADULT IS, WE WONT GIVE HIM A GUN,, WE HAVE A CHOICE, WE ARE TO SUPERVISE AND WATCH OVER THE SIX YEAR OLD, AS GOD DOES US,
THAT IS WHY YOU WERE GIVEN PARENTS, OTHERWISE, YOU WOULD NOT BE FED, LEARN OR SURVIVE, THEN, WHEN YOU PROGRESS,, AND HOPEFULLY YOUR MIND DOES ALSO, (ALTHOUGH IN YOUR CASE THIS IS QUESTIONABLE) then you know right from wrong, and you are still free to do right, or do wrong, and you expect GOD, TO STOP YOU, ?
if it is Gods fault you sin, or do wrong, then you don't get it yet,
he had the right to create you, and he can undo that any time, is that what you want?
OR DO YOU JUST WANT TO BE A SPOILED LITTLE CHILD, WHO IS NEVER GROWING BEYOND TWO YEARS OLD?
THE LAST THING I WANT TO SAY TO YOU BATMAN, IS YOU ARE NO BATMAN,
THIS IS REAL LIFE, IN WHICH YOU SHOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR, LOOK AT THE ALTERNATIVE,

ALL THE COMMENTS YOU SAID, ARE THINKING WITH A VERY YOUNG BRAIN, AND A VERY LESS THAN BASIC INTERPRETATION, OF GOD,

we can never second guess God, or put our selves in his "shoes" OR EVEN THINK THAT WE ARE BORN WITH HIS KNOWLEDGE, POWER, ENERGY, OR ANYTHING, WE COMPARED TO GOD, IN THINKING AND RATIONALIZING HIS MEANING AND POWER IS NOT COMPARABLE, ALL THE GRAINS OF SAND, IN ALL THE BEACHES OF THE WORLD, IF YOU COULD COUNT THAT HIGH, WE ARE LIKE ONE LITTLE GRAIN IN COMPARRISON WITH THE CREATOR OF ALL THINGS, OUR SPIRITS AND MINDS, ARE VERY LIMITED, YET WE STILL EXIST,

BE GRATEFUL, AND I HOPE YOU EXPAND YOUR THINKING AND SOURCE,

GOOD LUCK,
MY FINGERS ARE TIRED, NOW, SO GOOD NIGHT

Your logic is very circular and assumes that we are all stupid. The truth is that we can and do know the consequences of our actions. We may not know what Hell really is, but we know we don't want to go there. The Bible makes it clear that everyone has sinned and that we all deserve to go to Hell, but that we can all make the choice to accept the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. So, the real choice isn't whether to do right or wrong, but whether to accept the sacrifice or not.

Yes, God is powerful enough to prevent us from making the wrong choice, but he is also gracious enough to let us choose for ourselves. He is also merciful enough to provide an "out" for our wrong choices (Jesus). So, the only "wrong" choice is not accepting Jesus.

Your analogy of the 6 year old with a gun would therefore be that he can and does understand that there are some severe consequences for using the gun. He may not really understand the concept of death, but he knows enough to know he doesn't want to shoot himself with it. Yes, it is still his choice whether or not to use it. Realistically, no human parent is going to stand by and let a 6 year old play with a gun, so the analogy really doesn't work, and I would agree that in this particular case, it would be the parent's fault for letting their child play with a dangerous weapon.

However, God is not just standing by waiting for us to shoot ourselves. He provided the escape plan even before we received the gun. Are you going to accept His provision for you?

Hey, I got best answer in one of your questions. I was going to email you to add on, but your email isn't confirmed. SInce this relates to it, I'll post it here instead.

Free will makes absoultely no logical sense. How do you determine what is "God's will" and what is the sin of man? For example, a child who gets cancer...was it this so-called "God's plan" or from the free will of a parent that raised their child near a nuclear power plant that emitted radiation? Was it God's plan for 9/11 to happen? Or was the free will of the terrorists. Was it God's plan for X person to become a doctor? Or was it person had free will to study to become one? I've asked about why bad things happen before. The generic Christian response is either "It was in God's plan...you just don't understand it." When I try to argue against that, I get the answer, "It wasn't God's fault. It was the person who sinned."

Do you see where I'm going? Everything happens because of another person's free will. We get in car accidents because another driver chose to be careless. We become Christians because of the way we were RAISED or through the free will of others to help us, guide us, and teach us. It has more to do with chance than anything. Where does God come in? Did God reach down, and push thoughts into the person's mind? Then free will does not exist. Then our thoughts and actions are not our own.

Now, let's say that everything is God's plan. This means that God influences us, and helps us with our decisions. For Christians who say, "Well, God gave them those thoughts to commit those acts." Free will and God planning everything cannot co-exist. Supposedly, this "God" is all-knowing and powerful. If He already has a plan for us, do we have any power to change our situation? If He planned for us to act in certain ways, then we are not a product of our environment. We are creations of God, and therefore, reflections of what He wanted in us. If God already knows the past, present, and future, then do we really have free will? Can God become angry at our "present" selves because of what we *will* commit in the future? In a way, this implies that our destination is predestined. God already knows everything.

Though I am an agnostic,I think that you should look more toward what the essence of a faith is about.
I think that many dedicated religious people have the same argument, the same paradox.Personally,If anyone tells you to follow or die at the threat of divine punishment,it's probably not something you'd want to be involved with. Many Christians will say otherwise but I disagree with them.144 thousand is shitty odds to get into heaven.See?Another paradox! The bible is full of them,so for all of the unresolved questions concerning
God's propensity to punish and adulterer over a murderer simply because the murderer accepted Jesus doesn't hold water with me.
Look at it like this,A person of faith is not concerned with whether or not their God is real.Their faith sustains and suspends their doubts.Though religion is not really for me , I can see how faith is of prime importance to being in touch with one's creator in the
world's great religions.

it is not the fault of the Father for OUR disobiedience. do not blame God for our shortcomings. yes, He did give us a choice, but no, He is not responsible for our disobiedience. we are tempted to disobey God. we must make a choice. and we must be responsible for the consiquences of our choice. If we are truly sorry for our disobiedience, we can be forgiven. The devil deceives us into thinking that there is no punishment if we sin. God tells us flat out that we will be punished. satan lies to you and tells you the opposite of what the truth is. he gives us a story that sounds better than what is firs told us by God. that is where we must decide to be with or against satan. it is not God who should bew blamed. it is satan and ourselves.

You need to find God. You keep talking of children. We are not children, nor in the mind frame of a child. Yes God has the power to do anything! But he does not use his power to control us. He doesn't want robots to love him, he wants us to love him of our own free will. By the way, Hell -the biblical Hell, is just man's common grave. We all go there when we die. We are all accountable for our own actions.
