Sorry, wrong pie!!!! it is called a chess pie and is supposed to be made the same way custard is made. my grandmother used to call it shepherd's pie but as I can see from the answers she was totally wrong.

Chess Pie

1 9 inch pie crust -- unbaked
1/2 cup butter or margarine -- melted
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch salt
3/4 tablespoon vinegar

Prepare unbaked pie shell. Mix butter and sugar and simmer slowly, stirring, for 5 minutes. remove from heat and let cool slightly, stirring constantly. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Add vanilla, salt and vinegar; mix well.
Pour filling into pie shell and bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for 20-30 minutes. Shake pie gently. It is done when the center quivers slightly. Do not try to double recipe.
Pie keeps well in the refrigerator overnight. Can freeze and reheat.

INGREDIENTS:

1 (9 inch) pie shell

1/2 cup butter, melted

1 3/4 cups white sugar

3 eggs

1 tablespoon cornmeal

1/2 tablespoon distilled white vinegar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract


DIRECTIONS:


1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2.In a medium mixing bowl combine melted butter or margarine, eggs, and sugar. Mix well, then add cornmeal, vinegar, and vanilla extract. Stir until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Pour into pie shell.

3.Bake in preheated oven for 35 minutes, or until set and golden brown on top.

* 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
* 2 tablespoon butter
* 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
* 2 eggs, separated
* 6 tablespoons butter
* 8 potatoes, peeled, boiled, and mashed
* 1 cup finely chopped onion
* 1 tablespoon ketchup
* beef broth
* 1/2 cup heavy cream
* 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
* Parmesan cheese






Brown ground beef and sauté onions in 2 tablespoons butter until golden. Mix ground beef with onions, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Add a few tablespoons of beef broth and cook, covered, over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, adding more beef broth as necessary to keep moist. Beat egg yolks until light, then in another bowl, beat whites until stiff. Beat the yolks, cream, 6 tablespoons butter, and garlic powder into hot mashed potatoes. Gently fold in beaten egg whites. Put meat mixture into a casserole then top with potato mixture. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and bake at 350° until potato topping is puffed and browned, about 25 to 35 minutes.

sheperd pie a dessert? huh? well, i can modify it to make dessert as well...here it goes;
PLEASE NOTE: BECAUSE YOU R SAYING IT AS A DESSERT, THIS WILL BE MY FIRST TIME MODIFYING ORGINAL SHEPERDS PIE TO NEW GENERATION SHEPERDS PIE. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN TRIED OR TASTED SO, I GUESS, GOODLUCK MATE.

Ingredient List:

1 lb. ground beef

1 yellow onion, chopped

1 (10 oz.) can diced tomatoes

Salt and pepper

1 (16 oz.) can mixed vegetables, drained

4 med. potatoes, cooked and mashed

1 c. cheddar cheese, grated

25 table spoon of strawberry ja,

10 Table spoon of hershey's liquid chocolate

1 cup of ready made custurd



Kitchen Equipment Needed

Frying Pan

Round or oval casserole baking dish, oven safe

Instructions:



Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2: In a frying pan or skillet, brown ground beef. Drain any excess fat from the ground beef.

Step 3: In your casserole dish, combine the diced tomatoes, salt, pepper, mixed vegetables and ground beef mixture.

Step 4: Top with mashed potatoes and shredded cheddar cheese. Then cover with Jam, chocolate and custard.

Step 5: Bake uncovered at 350 degrees until the cheese melts, about 15 to 20 minutes.

Shepherd's pie is not a dessert....
It usually has a base of browned ground beef, mixed with tomato sauce and seasoning, sometimes with green beans mixed in.
Then on top you put a layer of mashed potatoes, then sprinkle shredded cheese on top and bake.

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 tablespoon cornmeal
PREPARATION:
Melt butter; blend with sugars. Add eggs and other ingredients and stir until blended. Do not beat. Bake in unbaked pie shell for one hour at 350°.
