I plan on moving to New Zealand from California. I'd like to live in an area where it is safe, resonable pricing, close to a main town or city and it MUST have some type of work available having to do with animal health care. Thanks for your help!

Go for somewhere a bit smaller than Auckland or Christchurch, or you'll get caught up in the rat race. Go for Tauranga or Mt Maunganui in the Bay of Plenty on the East Coast of the North Island. It's big enough, but not too big, there are plenty of farms and animal orientated jobs you could get involved in. It's lovely and warm, much better weather than Auckland. It is very close (on your doorstep) to the sea and some beautiful clean rivers. All in all it has everything you could need. And if you did want to go to the big city like Auckland it's only a couple of hours drive away.
Check out this website for all the low down on the area.

Christchurch ( South Island ).

Beautiful Place and Friendly People like myself.
The pricing is very reasonable. You can find a place close to the Township easily.
There's work out there you'll find to do with Animal Health Care.
Our Country is very peaceful and beautiful. You'll feel safe here, no doubt about that.

I wish you all the best on your Travel.

I live in auckland and its so beautiful. Try out weest, it has the auckland zoo, surf, sun and the beaches in auckland, beautiful lovely people and its reasonably cheap for lining in auckland. Honestly where ever you go to live in new zealand, it is safe, its a country people come to to bring their children up because its that far away from world violence. South island is also great. Good luck trying to find a place better than the next, its picturesque and outstanding, your gonna love living here with us!!!
