My friend has a 2 year old and lives in an apartment. Although she wants a lab, her car and apartment are too small for a big dog. She did end up adopting a Beagle but not too sure about keeping him either. She wants a dog that is good with her son and can roam free in her house when she's not there and not destroy anything, a dog her son can leash around, and a dog that don't require much walking. She's thinking a smaller dog would be best. She has a poodle now she's getting rid of (bites her son), and she don't want a toy breed. Does anyone know of a miniature dog that might be suitable for her situation? Do you think a Jack Russell or Daschund would be good for indoor living and children?

A Jack Russel is a terrier, hyper and very active. They need a lot of training, a firm hand, and someone who can handle their personality. I don't think this is the breed for her.

With such a little child, why doesn't she just wait a while? any new dog will require a lot of time, energy and patience. Can she really give all of that to the child and a new dog?

Get her a dog breed book, so she can see what dogs are really like. Just because you like the look of a breed, doesn't make it the right one for you.

English bulldogs are wonderful dogs that also make good apartment dogs. Tell her to research the breed, they are also extremely friendly. They however could find mischief when left alone to roam...they don't like to be alone too much, but a dog usually requires crating for training and to have a safe place to call home.

i do no longer have confidence, after an entire life of working with canine (and that i'm a mom) that anybody breed is extra advantageous than the subsequent. it is in the way you improve them. the only breed i'd warning you against is the Eskimo form canine, no longer as a results of fact they are undesirable, attacking, volatile, yet as a results of fact they are lots nearer to a primitive, working canine state and that they are much less possibly to be satisfied in a a kin difficulty, yet that may not for each ESKIMO canine. What you will desire to seem for somewhat is, a canine it is unquestionably experienced and submissive. Any breed would properly be super with little ones. An older canine who has lived with infants before is your best wager, and maximum shelters reveal canine to be sure how they react to different canine, cats, and little ones. I even have worked with pit bulls, my breed of determination, and would supply you a one hundred% assured answer that a wholesome pit bull raised with the aid of a human who's assertive, calm, and dominant, would be a spectacular, affected person significant different to your infants. yet once you GET HUNG UP ON BREED, you will no longer BE searching for traits THAT MAKE A canine stable WITH little ones!

We grew up in a very similar situation with a daschund named "banger" he was great but didn't enjoy being left alone

this usually meant returning to a flat which looked like a tornado had hit it, but he was great with kids

her best bet is a daschund...it has mild temper and doesn't require too much attention. it will make a good pet and friend for her 2 year old son.
