What is the latest you will call someone or be civil when someone calls you? Do you even have a rule?

For instance, the absolute latest I will pick up the phone is 7pm but am generally not happy when someone calls that late.

What is the rule in your household? Does the rule change if you have a cellphone?

I believe the latest time that people should call me is around 11 pm. Any calls that can wait the next day should not be made later than that. I am generally asleep by that time and I just hate getting my sleep disturbed. :)

It matters I think based on the person - I think you can call a friend's house with parents until 8pm. A cell phone of a friend until 9 or 10 unless they tell you anytime.

If you don't know the person, I would say 8pm is the latest regardless.

As far as my house - it's me and my bf so up to even midnight is ok - but really about 11 at the latest for people I know - otherwise 9pm - and I shut my cell phone off at night so that is not a problem. When I lived with my parents, if I told them someone might call it didn't matter but otherwise before 9 or 10 I think.

The most common time I think for most people is a cutoff between 8 & 9 - 7 is a bit too early but hey if your family or you doesn't like calls then, that is fine - just let people know cause most people would never think of between 7-8 as too late so just let them know - please don't call after 7 unless it is an emergency or tell them - my cell will be off but feel free to call whenever and leave a message.

Before 9am really pisses me off though haha - it does!! =)

7 pm seems early to me, but if you don't want to talk that late, it's cool. I generally don't make any calls after 10 pm. I might make a call after that if I know that the person usually stays up late and it's a cell phone so I won't be disturbing anyone else in the household. It depends a lot on the person and my knowledge of their habits. Some of my friends are morning people, and some are night people.

Ringing the phone is a request to talk with you. If you don't want to talk at that moment, you don't have to. You can always choose to talk or not talk at any time if it doesn't work for you. Just let the machine or voice mail pick it up and get back to them if you want to.

I have a 10-10 rule. No calls before 10am or after 10pm for friends. Some of my friends are still at work at 7pm, but all of my friends are still awake until 10pm and are usually up by 10am. The same rules apply to my cell phone. I am actually up before 10am but I have a toddler so I don't need to be on the phone in the morning, as I am busy attending to her. Before I had my daughter, on my day off I was asleep until 10am. Ahhh...the good 'ole days!!! Some of my friends don't have kids so I still follow this rule.

I'll accept calls all hours of the night (if it's an emergency). The latest I'll accept a non-emergent call is about 10 p.m. I *might* answer it after that, but I won't be nice about it.

The latest I'll make calls is about 8:30 p.m., unless it's to someone who I know is up and awake and will want to talk.

I prefer not to be called after 9:00 pm, but try to explain that to a teenager! They don't even wake up until 8:00 pm! (I'm exaggerating, they do tend to call late, if their parents let them.) People have different habits and schedules, so everybody has the right to their own rule.

No real rules, but I'd prefer if people did not call after 9 o'clock PM, so they don't disturb the sleeping people in my house. If I give a person my cell phone number they can pretty much call me anytime, although I hope that they text me rather than call me when it's late.

I wouldn't want anyone calling my home phone and waking up everyone in the house past around 10, but I don't care if anyone calls me any time during the day or night on my cell. Seriously, 7? I have a friend who when me and one of my other friends called him around 11, his parents got all p*ssed.

Depends on who is calling and if there was a previous agreement on the calling time.

As rule of thumb:
* Business acquaintences are called at their local business hours or at the cell phone at any time, since they can turn it off making sure I run into the voice mail. I expect their calls at my local business hours or at previously agreed times which can be as early as 6:00 am and as late as 11:00 pm. They are welcome to call my cell at any time since I turn it off when I don't want to be interupted.
* Acquaintances can be called and are welcome to call between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm on work days, between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm at the week end.
* Friends can be called and are welcome to call between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm on work days, between 10:00 am and 10:00 pm at week ends
* Family can be called when they are awake - times vary from person to person.

It happened exactly once that a colleague got the time zones wrong and woke me up at 2:00 am because he was using the private phone number. He never repeated that mistake.

After 9 or 10 at the latest....if you r a long time friend, and have a problem, i will accept your call any time, but don't call me after nine unless it is an emegency. I need my sleep! seven seems a little early in my opinion, but that is just me...
