could be one of the things listed below.
1) Poor nutrition. I personally suggest holistic foods (must have meats listed as the first 5 ingredients), or raw but if this is too expensive or complicated....switch to a higher brand of kibble such as Iams. Purina One is ok....BENIFUL IS CRAP FOOD!!! One of the worst dog foods ever made. Don't let commercials fool you!!! Its full of preservatives.
2) Heat. Of course its summer so if he is kept outside while you are gone but inside the rest of the time...he may stil be getting rid of his winter coat.
3) Illness. If #1 doesn't work and the shedding doesn't stop go see a vet. Could be something serious such as mange.

What breed is your puppy? Shedding varies greatly from breed to breed. Shedding will allow the new coat to come in. Some breeds have a seasonal shedding to get rid of their winter coat in the spring. If your dog has been indoor the dog's body might not have been able to register the change of season, so it may shed all year round. But remember not to leave your puppy out for long hours. It is just a puppy.

Since you have mentioned puppy I m sure he is less then a year old.He might be shedding to grow new hair.Just brush him regularly and use good shampoo to give him a shower.I don't think so there could be anything else going wrong with him.Even though he is shedding he looks healthy and is playful right.Only go and see a vet if you see wet stools and he does not have his meals properly.

I have a 3 month old Pomeranian and he has been shedding. I give him indoor puppy royal canin food so not sure what could be causing the shedding. does anyone know if this is normal.

tons of possible causes.
did s/he recently get wet? a skin irritation could do it. or sometimes even just maturity. what is the climate like where you live? my dog sheds like crazy twice a year during the change in season.
it's been really hot lately where i am, it could just be a reaction to your puppy being extra hot for a period of a few days.

Could be several things.. how old is your puppy? What breed? Shedding can be a sign of illness, poor nutrition, or parasites, and you should probably ask your vet to be sure.

Well, you said it is a puppy, but not what breed, or how old.. my dogs shed their entire puppy coat at about 12 -16 months old..but other breeds mature earlier..

most dogs shed a lot in the spring and fall. this is normal. you should brush your pup regularly and feed him a high quality food.
abnormal causes of fur-loss include allergies or parasites. if the fur is coming off in only a few small areas, consider a trip to the vet. if it is coming off all over, it is normal shedding.

You didn't say what type of dog. Some shed more than others and especially in the summertime.
