It is normal for birds to make some noise. Some species are noisier than others by nature (Cockatoos are always very noisy for example).
However, if the bird is screaming loudly, they often do that because they are lonely or bored and want attention.
Don't yell or hit the cage when it's being noisy, because if the bird is lonely it will take any attention as a reward. Instead, you'll probably get better results by rewarding the bird with attention or treats whenever you catch it being quiet. Birds usually learn better from rewards for good behavior than from punishment for bad behavior.
Try taking it out of the cage more often and talking to it in a pleasant tone to model good behavior for it.
Give the bird a chance to burn off some energy by giving it a lot of toys to play with. You can buy a lot of toys at pet stores, but toys don't have to be expensive - a lot of birds like playing with stuff like toilet paper rolls, pompom balls of CLEAN kleenex, or paper cups (just be careful not to give it anything it could get its head or foot tangled up in and hurt itself). If you can keep the bird busy doing other stuff, then it will be less likely to scream.

I know this may be hard to digest but belive me even i had a bird pet like yours that made a lot of noise so i decided to get a mate for it but soon they got on very well and looking at them every day i felt sad that i was actually the jailer of those two bird. Next day i could not take it any more, i set them free and they flew away together and dissappeared in the horizon and until today i have never heard nor seen them but the one thing i know is that they are free........so..If i were you i would free the bird so that it may live in it's natural habitat.....

uhm..... im new here... but if its a parakeet/budgerigar/lovebird those kind of bird i can probably help you out. how long have you been keeping the bird?
try letting it out for exercice but you should make sure all the doors and windows are shut. if its necessary in your opinion clip its wing. (if your a new owner of birds, i do not advice you to clip its wing. "clipping" does not mean putting a clip on its wing. it means trimming it. dont try to do it if you have not had any experience)
or you could try putting music on. try playing music from rocky to slow. birds have interest in different music as well.
or if he still is making some noise, talk to him soothingly. if he still is screeching, i advice checking the little fellow up in the vet. for the night you should make sure the cage is at waist height and that his cage is big enough. then cover a sheet covering the cage but make sure you leave some spaces uncovered (not much space, but enough)
good luck;)....... Mizah <3

The best thing to do is to ignor it, I know this sounds hard but any action you take is seen as positive reinforcement and the bird will react to it, if you shout at it when it screams, it is getting a reaction from you and will continue to scream just to get the attention it wants. You can change the behavior to something more pleasing but it takes some work.

I had parakeets and they were quite noisy as well. When it came time for bedtime I would use a heavier, dark colored blanket over a sheet to cover the cage so that the light wouldn't get through and keep them up. It is worth a try :)

What type of bird is this? Some birds need More attention than others. And if he is all alone with no attention. You are giving it to him by yelling.
Buy him a mate. At least he will have someone to be with.
When he is squawking let him out maybe he wants to get out a little.
You will get a better response if we knew what type of bird this is.

Try buying a typical spray bottle and fill it with water. Make sure that when you spray it, it comes out in a stream not a mist. When he's being too loud, spray him with the water bottle in the face area, birds don't like that.

Try putting it in another room which is quiet. Your bird might have anxiety issues. A quieter room with some light might help. If all else fails, ducktape it. :D

If you are really unhappy with it, then perhaps it would be best in another home. Find a type of pet that won't be so noisey and bother you. Like a rock.
