My little sister lives with me and my bestfriend(roomie). She went to a friends house and got lice. Now the 3 of us have it. The hair products to not work..i need good ol' home remedies that WORK.

also, i'm afraid to let anyone come over for fear that they will get it too. and we rarely go places where we have to sit and visit so we don't spread it. But school started for my sis Monday, and i don't want her getting sent home from school...

You have to launder everything the hair came in contact with, or if you can't launder it, put it in a plastic bag in the freezer for 24 hours. Bleach all combs and brushes. Vacuum the carpets. Tea tree oil added to shampoo will kill the lice. I left the shampoo on my head overnight when I had lice, but I don't know if that's a good idea for kids because it's pretty strong. If you keep using this shampoo with tea tree oil for 10 days, it will kill any lice that crawl back on your head and the eggs when they hatch, because it can't kill all the eggs before they hatch. If you or your sister has any bad reaction stop using it and talk to a doctor, but I think tea tree oil is probably safer to use than anti lice shampoo with chemicals. Keep long hair in a braid, because when long hair gets staticy and flys around, lice get a free ride to other people's heads that way. Good luck getting rid of those things, they're a real pain!

It sounds like an infestation.

You must wash/sterilize all fabrics, etc.

Bleach will kill many things - I would wash all the bedsheets, towels, in bleach. Pillows and mattresses are also hotbeds - throw out the pillows, buy new, not sure what you can do if you cannot afford to replace the mattress, but getting rid of it is essential.

You got the lice soap from the store and it didn't work?

I can't think of too many products that are safe to use that kill these pests. For hair - try a vinegar rinse- it's acidic. It may not work, and you may need to shave hair, or use an oil to smother the air out for awhile (just stay INSIDE).

Call the school, call your state department of health and see what they can offer.

sigh.. mayonaise and shower cap it suffacates the bugs u might have to repeat this once or twice but honey it works and the reason u should not use rid is bec there is a new breed so to speak of lice and its adapted to that product. mayo works better anyday then wash it out wth shampoo. really really well and conditioner as well and maybe some tea tree oil . i reccomend getting the special lice comb the metal one and using this pink spray they make for finding bugs yes pink spray to put in the hair makes the nits or lice show up its really cool and makes life easier when dealing wth lice. goodluck and tell uer sister to be more careful wear hair up in pony or braid wtvr its supposed to make it harder for them to get in uer hair so uer head contact problem wont get as bad. no sharing clothes of any kind wash all linens and things its very important goodluck wth everything.

You will need to go to a pharmacist for help. Lice is difficult to get away without specialized products. I dont know of any home remedies to get rid of lice but i would suggest that you go to the pharmacist for help immediately. This will help you to get rid of the lice so that your sister can go to school with no worries!

(edit) I actually agree with 'Dodge' on this topic. Using Tea Tree Oil will get rid of the lice. Try this and see for yourself!

There is the fastest way but you have the risk to cut your beautiful hair but if you don't want to cut it off just take a bath everyday, use a Nizoral shampoo once a week, use a comb with fine brush so that the lice with will go with it as you comb your hair and if you have enough time just try to get it off one by one.

try using a lice comb while in the shower to wash them all off and down the drain. or maybe get a vacuum hose and try to suck them off while using the lice comb so they cant escape the suction.

another variation, spray your hair with super mega, hairspray to slow em down, if not immobilize them, then try the vacuum.

sure, it sounds ridiculous, and I've never tried it, but it sounds like it could work, right? what have you got to loose. at most you will have a funny memory to look back on. ha hah!!!! but seriously, i hope it works.
