I am Native American and I am also Christian. I have a problem of not knowing how to honor both of them at the same time. Everyone else in my family honors one or the other. I am just not sure how to balance the 2. Anyone have any advice?

There is only One Creator and that One is Holy ... The God of Abraham, Isiah and David, is also the God of your Native American Ancestors. You've come to the cross roads where there are many questions that really don't need to be asked ... it's all about your acceptance of both, not someone else's decision. You've come to the place of the Best of Both Worlds.

Christians will object but I think you have already seen the similarity in "their" diversity. There realistically are no differences other than Traditions ... and because someone else will say so.

I won't tell you not to go pray within the structure of the church, and I won't tell you not to acknowledge Great Spirit as He touches your face with a breeze. Great Spirit is everywhere and thus, how you choose to honor Him is your choice on your path. It's All Good. - Your experience will broaden your spiritual intellect.

Religion is taking care of the poor and the widows and the orphans.
Honoring and Idol that cannot move or make a noise or even speak a kind word is not that of God.
There is only one God and he had a son.
Honor him and he will honor you.
Ancient spirits have no power here because of Yeshua made it so. He died so that you may live. That does not mean not honoring your parents for God tells us to do that it is a commandment.
Rest your faith in the Almighty living God and his son Jesus in the family of Elohim.
If God is with you whom can be against you?
Keep and eye on the news for all that has been written in the book of books is coming true.
Trust in God First and serve no other gods. It will be a blessing. I
promises it will be. Read the guide to human existence call the Bible. It holds Truth. Seek Truth and God will find you.

Good for you for being open enough to love both expressions of God. I think that's awesome. I've been through something similar in that I was raised Roman Catholic and have always had a very close relationship with Christ, but I've also always been sensitive to what I was taught was the "occult." My people are Irish on both sides as far back as we go, so I've got nature-based-faith in the blood. I reconciled these two seemingly competitive faiths by coming to understand that I don't believe Christ would have anything to do with today's Christian churches--at least the ones in which the faithful are more judgmental, fearful, and literalist (in that they take the Bible literally) than they are compassionate, kind to all, utterly non-judgmental, and generous of spirit, like he was. I believe he's still with me, guiding and protecting me, and he loves that I love and revere both God's masculine and feminine energies.

Ive always found (Im a person in a similar situation) that if I address each question I have one by one, I usually find that there wasnt a conflict in the first place. It all depends on how extremist you are with Christianity. I like to back track to that "What would Jesus do" saying, and with a little common sense as well, the answer sort of pop into place.

i met someone through yahoo answers who is also native american and christian and honors both and seeks out the similarities between the two. his name is lakota bob. i'm sure he would be happy to hear from you. if there no search engine for it, you can find him in my answer section. just look at the names not the questions. he should be on the first or second page. from his profile you will be able to email him. if you have any trouble let me know and i can help you out.
in my opinion, when it comes to religions, it's best not to inbreed but to mix in order to keep a healthy perspective, so cheers to you.

i just sent him your question so maybe you will hear from him (forgot about that option)

I'm not Christian and I wouldn't recommend it. That's my opinion. I'm not against it; if it makes you act right, go ahead. But anyway, you don't have to choose just one and you certainly shouldn't think that you have to belong into a category. Make up a mixture! Call it "Native American Christianity" or whatever you want. Do some research on mixed/eclectic religion. I myself mix two religions and it's great for me. Just follow your heart and don't let your family's actions decide for you.

Honey, I know nothing about how Native Americans worship or even if they contradict Christianity, but here's what the Scripture has to say about what you are asking:

Mt 6:24
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Lu 16:13
No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

I'm sorry if this was unsettling for you, but really, if you are going to be a Christian, you really do have to serve the Lord as a Christian....May God be with you. †

My grand mother was Native America and she was a Christian, she was the grandest of all ladies, she love her blood line but she never saw that the two disconnected from the other.

You fail to relate just what is being honored and not be honored. The spiritual concepts of the Native Americans and the fact that they have beliefs of other powers outside of God? But in reality isn't there just ONE Creator in your belief, but with other sources of power given to those chosen Indians for the expressed purpose to communicate, protect and guide them in a world full of danger and mischief.

Is this not similar to Christianity, with its saints, angels, and prophets.

You can honor their beliefs, because they walk another path, one maybe not that you have chosen but one that they have out of their understanding and it is where they are now and chose to be, that you can honor, and honor you own belief with the wisdom to know that you need not try to change them, but love them for their beliefs for it is God himself that is Love, and if we cannot love our own brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers no matter what,,,,then how can we say we love God.

Pray to God in your private time for help. Also, be open about your love for both religions. Let people know how you feel.

Tough question.

Jesus said you must put God above your Mother, Father, Son and Daughter.
