True humility is not thinking less of yourself (thinking of yourself in a negative way), but thinking about yourself less.
It is very difficult to achieve complete humility - nigh impossible, because when you tell yourself you've achieved it, you probably haven't. I strive to achieve humility by trying my best to:
A) Always admit when I am wrong and apologize, if necessary
B) Accept correction
C) Put others' interests in front of my own.
D) Remembering that God is always right, and I'm not.
It isn't easy, for me, but from what I've seen, truly humble people are truly happy, and they make everyone around them happy, too. If everyone were humble, we'd all be more happy.

I'll answer in reverse:

I CAN'T strive for humility - because that means thinking too much about My Self - which is the Problem. The idea is to Love God with all you have and Love your Neighbor as yourself...and do it so you don't have time to dwell on yourself.

I'll "borrow" from one of my heroes, C.S. Lewis:

"...if you really get into any kind of touch with Him (i.e., God
Almighty ) you will, in fact, be humble - delightfully humble,
feeling the infinite relief of having for once got rid of all the
silly nonsense about your own dignity which has made you
restless and unhappy all your life..."

...and...

"Do not imagine that if you meet a really humble man he will
be what must people call 'humble' nowadays...(h)e will not be
thinking about humility; he will not be thinking about himself
at all."

Please - think VERY carefully - about this.

Peace!

Humility is knowing that you have the power to do something that can and or will affect another life but refrain from doing so for the greater good. (if your action will cause a negative outcome). Humility is submitting (to good) without murmuring or complaining... You have achieve humility when you have learned to esteem others higher that yourself. To accomplish humility is to seek help from the Father

Here is what the Bible says (Sirach 3:17-22):
17 *My son, conduct your affairs with humility,
and you will be loved more than a giver of gifts.
18 Humble yourself the more, the greater you are, and you will find favor with God.
19 *For great is the power of God;
by the humble he is glorified.
20 What is too sublime for you, seek not,
into things beyond your strength search not.
21 What is committed to you, attend to;
for what is hidden is not your concern.
22 With what is too much for you meddle not,
when shown things beyond human understanding.

I do not strive to achieve humility. I strive to avoid it. Why be humble about something you are good enough to be proud about it?

I usually associate negative connotations to humility. To me it means putting oneself down, or putting others above oneself.

I like to know what I'm capable of, and be proud of it. Helping myself to be happy and productive, I think, helps others, and I certainly don't think shame is healthy! Confidence makes for a better, happier person, and happy people make other people happy! Do your job, do it well, and take credit for what you do (but not MORE than what you do, that's a dangerous kind of arrogance.)

So I guess, according to my definition, I don't try to acheive humility - I do the opposite! =)

Humility are those moments in life that question how deep our faith is and only the experiences of life can achieve it.

digilook,

Humility is simple obedience to God, and Jesus is our example.

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:5-11

God bless.

Humility is the ability to know and accept the truth from whomever is speaking it forth and to apologize when I have acted wrongly.

To answer your question it (humility) is not about me or my answer and any attempt to achieve it is self-defeating.
