That or it's an easy score for him or that you're a "trophy" date!

Only way to find out is to go to formal with him. If you both have a great time keep up the contact, go out on dates, hang out more and you will see. If you are able to hang out a lot more after formal, good chance he likes you. If he ignores you at or after formal, then he doesn't like you. This is my experience from being a guy and seeing other guys do this

Hahhahahaha
He might not like you (but going with a girl is better than not going at all).
He might like you but not want to scare you off by saying he likes you (personally when I like a girl I don't tell her explicitly).
He might be on the fence as to whether he wants to pursue you or not.
Just try flirting with him a little and see how he reacts. He may flirt back or he may not be interested. Let me tell you, if he ain't interested then he is not a part of your romantic life. That means at the formal if you meet someone else you like or whatever that you can do whatever.
Also realize that if he drinks at all at your formal and hooks up with you that when he sobers up he may regret the decision if he soberly isn't interested in you.
Hope that makes sense.

Does he have a girlfriend? If yes then she probably cancelled on the last moment & he was left with u.If no & he has previously mentioned to you that he likes u as a friend maybe its true & he has asked you out cos there was no one around you were 'best from the rest' etc.or maybe he really wants to take friendship to another level. Go prepared but dont expect anything. Have a good time & show him how wonderful u r & maybe things turn out in your favour.

You are right in thinking that you are special to him. Asking you to his formal is a very big deal. Have you thought that he told you he only wants to be friends so you will feel safer? He doesn't want you to think he only has ideas about wanting to make out with you or whatever. Go with him and be your own sweet self. If he wants you to be his girl, he will let you know.

Definitely, he likes you but it doesn't mean a guy invited you to something would mean that he does like you being more than a friend. Maybe, he finds you like really nice and considers you as his best friend. Don't be confused just learn to enjoy being with him who treats you special in many ways.

i think its just that he needs time to know more abt u..
this situation is like....
its always safe to ask a girl(whom u are meeting for the first time) for a coffe, but not lunch and dinner..
its like, if u both get along, then u can have lunch or dinner together..
and if its coffee/tea...at the max it will take 15mins to sit and talk..and if things dont go well..u can always leave after the tea/coffee...

Depends. Are you his first choice? Is he straight?
Or maybe he really likes you but he's just afraid you don't feel the same way. Its a classic defense mechanism.
