Considering that the automobile has only been around for about 100 years, I would guess that in 200 years, probably much less, we will be seeing personal aircraft that travel at almost super-sonic speeds. The only problem is that instead of having to pay attention to 2 dimensions as we do when driving now, we will then have to deal with 3 dimensions and I don't even want to begin to think about the mess that could introduce.

In 200 years the oil will be gone, if we haven't found another way to get around by then (we likely will find something, necessity is mother of all invention) then we will be doing what we were doing for thousands of years before modern travel and that is walking.

At the rate at which they are being killed today, I don't except any civilians to be around after 200 years. There will only be military personel!!

If we're lucky, then transportation will consist of individual "cars" or "units" that are controlled by a unified system that controls speed, etc. and manages destinations and prevents crashes, etc.

However, if we're unlucky, then it will consist of massive public transportation... an expansion of trains, cheaper, if not safer, airlines, etc.

I find the first preferable because I don't like travelling with strangers... I prefer to travel with my family and friends in an environment where we can talk amongst ourselves without interuption or dealing with unwanted intrusions.

However, in either case, I expect that the future of transportation will be "out of our hands" in the sense of "we're driving". It will be managed by an outside source... the question is whether we'll be able to manage our own privacy or not.

For those who survive global warming, they will have been using the electric cars, but energy is rare since the sun barely eeks through the atmosphere to warm the earth. Grim, it is, very grim. But don't worry, humans will rise again, better, smarter and more willing to keep giving respect to the Earth.

Peace.

We either would use these suction tubes to send us flying to our destination. Or we would teleport like they did in Star Trek.
