Often my cat will suddenly growl and start running around the house like a maniac. It appears like she is scared and that she's trying to get away from someone or something but there is nothing there. Last night she was climbing the curtains at 3:00 in the morning! She stops as suddenly as she starts, again for no apparent reason. I've had her for 6 months and she's been doing it since I got her (she's 8 months old now) Why does she do this?

She has been spayed. It didn't slow her her down a bit.

Cat Psychology...LOL...You've just got to love these crazy feline companions that we share our lives with. I don't know why cats behave that way, but I can assure you that it is perfectly normal behavior in a young and healthy cat. My cat is a little old lady at 11 years of age, and her "spooky" spells are over. I still love her though. Thanks for the memories of that kooky cat behavior.

I think you have some really great answers here. My cat does the entire run around thing. I call it the "kitty-cat freak out" She just runs in circles around the house like she is hunting prey. BUT I also believe that cats can sense things we do not. My sister always said that her cats were "playing with angels" when it would run and chase absolutely nothing. If she seems frightened, as someone else said, hold her and speak softly reassuring her that everything is ok.
Good Luck!!

All cats seem to do this, no matter the age. They seem to have some sort of imagination that is just wild! There is really nothing scaring them, even though the ears might be down, and they are acting paranoid. Just enjoy the crazy time - we look upon it as entertainment.

That is extremely possible. I've heard many stories like this. Have you recently lost another pet or a human family member? Do you know the history of your house at all? It amazes me how cats have the ability to see those kind of things.

Cats are nocturnal hunters. Our is up at that time chasing anything and everything that even thinks of moving. Shadows, bugs, whatever. There was probably a bug in the curtain.

My male cat always growls and runs out of the pottybox room after he has done his duty.

Ya, probably. Better call Ghost Hunters or move out or something. Next thing you know, your cat will be possessed.

Because she's a cat. I've found there are crazy cats and calm cats. You've got the former.

Your cat is still a kitten. She is exhibiting normal kitten behavior. She will eventually calm down. I wouldn't worry about it. Oh, and if you haven't done it yet, get her spayed.

Cat has a very good response.
Another possibility is Nightmares - your Cat may be having bad dreams.
