todays news said that about 100,000 katrina victims moved to houston after the floods. 80,000 remain. Last month 25% of murders were done by katrina victims or somehow involved. Why is this? Is the same death rates as illegals?

Because the criminals from New Orleans won't stop being criminals just because they are in a new city. One reason, the drug dealers from the ghettos in New Orleans are trying to re-establish their chosen trade and have to contend with the local dealers who do not want to give up their territory. Another, gangs that got separated during the initial evacuation and relocation have had time to find each other and regroup, again trying to establish territory in a new city and are running into resistance from Houston's area gangs. Third, people carry a grudge from New Orleans and now both are in Houston and that's where it happens to get settled. The first two reasons for murder are a direct consequence of New Orleans crooks moving to Houston. They would not have happened were it not for the storm. The third type of killing is not a result of the storm and has nothing to do with going to Houston. It is the type of killing that would have occurred even if they stayed in New Orleans.

The murder rate involving the Katrina refugees is higher than for the local illegal population.

And to "zclifton2". New Orleans would be a lot closer to being cleaned up and "back on its feet" if the refugees cared enough about themselves and their city to go back and help rebuild their homes. Instead, they live in FEMA subsidized apartments for a year, refuse to get a job, and complain that the federal government is about to stop paying their rent for them. When told that they have to pay their own rent or move out, a large number move out, taking with them the dishwasher, refrigerator, carpet, light fixtures, etc. that belong to the apartment complex. Kind of makes it hard to give them a helping hand when they won't help themselves except to what is not theirs.

It maybe true, but what is really true is that Bush and his friends have never cleaned up the mess in New Orleans so that the citizens of New Orleans can go home. Remember Bush saying that he would do whatever it took to get New Orleans back on its feet and working for her citizens. Well, that promise got the full Bush Fema Program touch, also.
Republicans just can not handle governing for long periods before their natural arrogance catches up to them. To bad. Republicans seem to love war as if it solves something, but they hate government even when government is the responsible party like during storms that hit and Gulf Coast.
Strange philosophy the Republicans have!
