Unique Health Remedies is currently focussing on stress and anxiety. Read the entire site and you should find many resources and information that can be helpful. Here's a quote from the site:
"Of all the signs of stress the most obvious is persistent worrying. This is a state where your brain is constantly reminding itself of problems or issues that need resolving. In fact, this is not only a sign of stress, it could be referred to as stress itself. After all, stress is a condition where worry and concern take over the mind to the exclusion of all other thoughts. Though worry is sometimes unavoidable, stress is actually a condition where worry is so all-consuming that there is no other room in the mind for anything else. Unfortunately, this can lead to physical health problems that will hurt you in other ways."

Hello. I have had some significant struggles with both. Doctor's can help, books can help, for some (but not for me) medicine can help...many things can help. What it really comes down to is the person themselves. It will never be easy. There will never be a simple answer. It will never make sense and it is no one's fault. One will never feel normal. But in mastering such struggles, one is given the opportunity to find the root of one's being, to find the inner core and strength of one's self, the chance to find out who you really are and who you want to become...and the opportunity to be forced to actually become this. Unlike many who would like to think about change, it is either do or die. If you cannot find the strength which is there, it will destroy you. I don't know how bad your friend has it, but whatever it is, he/she must know that we are NEVER given more than we can handle. However much he/she has to handle, then they know how strong they must be...because whatever they have to overcome, the power to do so already lies within. Depression and or anxiety (often linked) is just a way of showing how strong they are to have such opposition. It will be a long and hard battle, but it is for them to ultimately fight, definitely with the help of others! Support really helps! :) There are always many ups and downs. Many times of conquering and times when it feels as if you failed and should just give up. Tell them...they can do it! However out-of-control it feels, or however much it may suck the life out of them...they can master it! They do not have to listen to any other voice in their head, but their own.

You know, I think the best source to help a depressed friend out isn't from a book, but from a true friend. Talk to her.
However, if you really do want a book, I would recommend books with real life stories. Chicken soup is pretty good =)

I don't know that a book will solve anything...many depressions are caused by chemical imbalances...she should really see a doctor.
