It can be either Irish or German:

gann
Irish: reduced form of McGann.

McGann
Connacht form of McCann.

McCann
Irish (northern Armagh): Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Cana ‘son of Cana’, a personal name or byname meaning ‘wolf cub’.

possibly a reduced form of McGahan.

McGahan
Northern Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Eacháin, ‘son of Eachán’ a diminutive of Eachaidh, a personal name based on each ‘horse’.

***

German: from the personal name Gano, or, in Austria, a short form of Candidus, a personal name from Latin candidus ‘bright’, ‘white’, ‘clear’, ‘beautiful’ (see Kann).

Kann
German, Danish, and Jewish (Ashkenazic): from Middle High German, Middle Low German, Danish kanne, German Kanne ‘jug’, ‘flagon’ (Latin canna), hence a metonymic occupational name for a maker or seller of jugs, or in some cases possibly a habitational name for someone who lived at a house or tavern distinguished by the sign of a flagon.
German (Austria): from a short form of the personal name Candidus.
Jewish (Ashkenazic): one of the many forms of Cohen.

***

German: topographic name for someone who lived near an expanse of scree, Middle High German gant.

I see people have given you options. If you are researching your genealogy, don't forget that each generation is a power of 2, which adds additional names to who you are. In 6 generations there are 64 Ancestors. Only one of the lineages is GANN. So if you subtract 6 from 64, there are 58 possible names. The sum of all these contributors is who you are (genealogically speaking).

I know a Scott Gann living in North Little Rock, but, unfortunately, I never asked him of the origins of his surname.

Now I wish I had.
