i have had him since he was 6 weeks old. he never did this before, he was always loving and fun to play with. he will take food from your hand, but if you go to pick him up or touch him, he will bite. i have tried everything, squirting water on him (he likes water) telling him no, covering him up after he does this.they say, not to flip the beak. i dont know what else to do??

This bird is trying to dominate you, you say he started this at two years of age. This is when most conures reach sexual maturity and they try to dominate thier flock members, to try and be top of the pecking order. You have to show him who is boss by giving him lots of cuddles. Hold him so that he cannot bite and show him that he cannot be your boss. Also if he is not clipped you might consider this as he will become more reliant on you instead of being able to go wherever he wants to. Please do not clip him if you have never done it before have a professional do it, I do it for free for my customers at my store.

I actually have 3 solar Conures-Dad & childrens., I actually have had toddler 6 years & childrens a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. None are caged yet rest room experienced. i purchased toddler from a puppy save and he grow to be mutulated by technique of extreme wing clipping and no tail and he did not like my blond hair (puppy save had blond hair!) After spending 24 hours an afternoon with him as a consistent significant different he might want to nevertheless chew and get blood..this went on for type of four years! i grow to be in tears and a touch worried even as he grow to be by technique of my face. After the female & toddler had eggs he's a thoroughly sweet chicken. no more effective biting in any respect. I actually have written numerous article for the Avian well being community and through my analyze got here across that all and distinctive birds desire a flock to go such as. i imagine that's what cured my toddler of biting...he had his personal flock to practice..I wasn't wise adequate to be a chicken!!

He is telling you that he wants a mate. Our conure was like this very loving at first and then she went into her cycle, we could not play with her safely any longer. She would love one person on day and attack the same person the next. We got her a boyfriend and the lay a clutch of eggs and were very loving toward each other, but forget us humans.

If it's a new behavior, don't think the bird's gone bad. He is probably having a problem or going through a phase. My birds sometimes get irritable and start to bite for several reasons:
they feel neglected due to their human flock's absence (working longer hours, or my kids go to camp...),
they don't feel good,
they have settled down and don't want to be bothered, etc..
But they get over it.

Is he or has he been above eye level or sitting on your shoulder...? Its dominance with birds to be above eye level or on the shoulder... also... if you slowing start retraining him like 15 mins 3x a day doing "step ups" and slowing retraining him he shoudl come around... he may also be starting to molt which you shouldnt really pick him up or mess with him too much...they get a little attitude during this time! if you ever need anything else... go to your local petsmart (petsmart NOT petco) and have a bird specialist help you or e-mail me at BabyGyrlNasha@yahoo.com and i'll be glad to help you...

-by the way... i work for the petcare department for Petsmart!

some just get aggresive with age, especially if you start to get too comfortable with it and touch it to the point it's offended or starting to get scared. sounds like you have a movie deal on your hands though, add alittle gore, maybe more of them, and bigger americans will LOVE it.

try giving him some space and try not expecting too much from him. another suggestion is to get him a playmate.
