Don't worry, but get it replaced. Sugarpine is right. It may have come out because there is enough new decay in your tooth that it just was not holding onto the filling any longer. You maybe don't have to go to your dentist TOMORROW, but you ought to at least call for the next convenient apointment so you don't get a toothache.

Yes, you my have had micro-leakage or a small fracture of the filling, so yes decay is the cause of the filling falling out. To wait to long could create problems, you don't have to have a toothache to tell you that you may possibly need a root canal. Its possible for an abcess to occur without feeling pain. Only an x-ray can diagnose this for the doctor. If the decay is allowed to stay within the tooth for very long this will injure your pulp, and this is what will allow bacteria to cause an abcess at the apex of your root. Also by having this repaired soon, you will prevent further fracture of the healthy portion of the tooth (biting down on something hard) therefore requiring a pin core to hold in the filling (another costly wait) If you have it checked soon, it may only be a replacement and minor cost.

Yes. You need to make an appointment with your dentist ASAP. Your filling came out because your tooth is rotting around the filling. Without prompt treatment, you could lose your tooth. Or worse.
