Kilo is a thousand. So kcal is a thousand calories.

In physics and chem, a calorie is the amout of heat required to raise 1 ml of water 1 deg. C in temperature. 1 cal. = 4.2 joules.
1 kcal is a kilo-calorie or 1000 times as much.
In the dietician's world 1 calorie is the same as the physicist's kcal. It is stupid, but the issue is that the physics calorie is very small & thus clumsy for diet work.

kcal means kilocalories its just the proper way 2 say a calorie
e.g 422kcal is 422calories.
