My teeth were yellow as a child and I was told by a dentist that it was a natural protective coating and to this day I don't have any big cavities. As I got older, I started to get my teeth cleaned and got two teeny winnie cavities so know I leave my teeth alone.
There are other types of yellow that are on the teeth like cigarette stains, coffee stains, and fruit stains that stay on the teeth. You need a dentist to verify which one it is...

Actually, as you grow older your teeth will naturally become yellow. Your teeth has enamel which is the white outermost layer that you see, and dentine, which is more yellow in colour and underneath your enamel. As you age, you will produce more dentine, but you can't make anymore enamel, hence yellow dentine will start to show up more underneath you translucent white enamel.
But, enamel can also be stained by nicotine, coffee and tea in everyday life.

Genetics - might run in the family.
Bad hygiene - you don't brush 3x a day.
Smoking - nicotine can really mess up you front teeth.
To avoid - use colgate 12 whitening - it protects gums and whitens teeth at the same time. See your dentist regularly for cleaning for plaque build-up, brush 3x a day and change your toothbrush every 3-6 months. Gargle with astringosol or listerine also.

because of the colouring in everything these days and stuff like smoking and drinking coffee, especially black coffee. you could pay for your teeth to be bleached if you wanted whiter teeth but i think its quite pricey!
