I am not sure if any of us get over our first loves. They are what we pinned our hopes and dreams on. They were our rainbows and our happy ever after guys. We over obcessed on their every breath. We saved trinkets from our time with them. We hung on to their every word. They were our entry to the world that we thougth would save us from all the sad things in the world. We
were so sure that with them, we would never make the same mistake our parents did. We could over come the world "if only............"

Eventually we move away from that first love for one reason or another. That boy will never be who we thought he was or who we thought we could be if we were with him.

I am 56 years old. I had to move to California and say goodbye to my first love. I had just turned 17 years old. It took me my last two years of high school to get over him enough to date someone else. That is how true I was to him. He wrote me a kind letter telling me that there were too many miles between us to keep a young relationship going. Still I waited two years before I dated again.

I can write this about him because he will never be on Yahoo answers. He is still alive. But has never been well emotionally. He has never had a job. He lives in a basement. He has been in and out of mental facilities. He has had run in's with the law.

I did speak with him on the phone resently after close to 40 years without seeing each other.

I could write a book. Maybe I will.

I've gotten over him in the sense that I don't long to be with him anymore, but I'll always, always have a little something special for him. It's totally innocent, but if he/she's your first true love, then it's, in a way, forever.

No, I haven't. I have loved him since we were eleven years old and we are now 58!

He married my worst enemy while still in high school because she was pregnant. Over the years I even tried to take my own life because I didn't think I could ever handle not being with him.

I waited impatiently for high school reunions and lived on the happiness of that dance with him for another five years, until the next reunion. I still dream about him all the time.

My husband knows all about it. I told him I could not marry him because the only man I would ever love was this guy. He didn't care. He said he understood how I felt and he loved me enough for both of us.

For my 50th birthday my husband put together a party at a nice restaurant. There were about ninety people there. By then, I had not seen my love for a long time because our reunion committee didn't feel like doing anymore reunions!

So I am happy, I am excited, I look damn hot for fifty years old and my friends were all there for me. I had my wonderful daughters and my loving husband and I was having a great time.

Suddenly I became aware of the first notes of a song the DJ had just started. The song that was one I always teared up for, a song that had played at the teen center where I first met my love and danced my first dance, shared my first kiss with him.

Out of the crowd come my first love, Danny; a little more silver in his hair, a lot more "substantial" body, some wrinkles etched by a lifetime of California sunshine. He smiled that smile that melted me, held out his hand, pulled me up, held open his arms, danced with me. It was a wonderful, incredible night. You see, by then I had been diagnosed with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and could only sort of slide on the dance floor, or stand on my partner's feet as he led me around the floor. But that night I didn't mind that I couldn't walk because I floated on a cloud all evening.

No, I haven't gotten over my first love, but I now love the man who truly showed what love is all about. Love is planning that party for me, finding my first love, standing back smiling with no jealousy whatsoever. Love is seeing a spouse through a painful, incurable disease. Always at her side helping her, encouraging her, loving her.

Love is helping her with her personal needs, listening helplessly as she cries over her lost indepence, her inability to keep food down after chemotherapy drugs are taken. I could write for hours, but you get the picture.

No, I never got over my first love, but I will cherish and adore the man that I married forever. He is my last love, and I am so grateful to have him at my side until the end of my time.

If you made it this far, thank you for letting me reminice. I hope some of you could identify.

Yes and no. It's an odd feeling that I have for him. I'm over him in the sense that I never want to date to him again or be "in love" with him again, but I still care for him a great deal. I think about him all the time and only wish the best for him. He got mad at me at one point after we broke up and said he never wanted to talk to me again, and yet I still think of him fondly. I hope he is doing well, despite how he hurt me. I hurt him too, after all.

Good question. Was it really love if the two are not together anymore? Or was it infatuation? I dont think I ever really had a first, second, or third love so maybe I shouldnt be answering this question.

In a way. I dearly love my husband and would never give him up. But I still have a soft spot in my heart for my ex. Even if he slept with lots of other women. He was my first real love. The as@hole

I think if you were REALLY in love with a person, you could never really get over him...especially if you were at fault with the breakup. In my case, I didn't know how to cherish our relationship until it was too late. So a part of me will always be full of the "what ifs".

To be honest, no. I just recently emailed her for the first time in over 18 months. I found and emailed her a picture of her that I drew.
