Oh no! Poor, poor kitty! Have you ever ripped off a fingernail or cut your nails so short that the tender skin beneath the nail is exposed? If so, you know how painful and irritating that can be. It's not a medical emergency, but it's definitely worth having the vet take a look. You want to be sure it heals properly (scar tissue can hinder the nail regrowth and obstruct it). Also, because this is a kitten, your vet may want to give you some ointment to prevent infection (kitten's have weaker immune systems like all babies do).
Don't feel too bad, although I'm sure it's tough. Accidents happen. If you're in any doubt as to the proper way to trim the claws, ask your vet to show you. It's very easy on a cat because their nails are white and it's easy to see & avoid the "quick". Nevertheless, accidents happen. Unfortunately cats have damn good memories. You may have some difficulty the next time your kitten needs a pedicure. Just make sure to tell him your sorry (cats love to be cooed over) and next time he's good for his trimming, praise and reward him like mad. Tell him what a wonderful, super-dooper, brave, champ of a kitty he is and give him hugs, kisses and maybe even a sardine (YUCK, I mean YUM!) and he will definitely forgive you. Good luck!

you probably just clipped it a little too short b/c there are blood vessels in the nails, so you can't just go clipping however short you feel like it. get a q-tip and press it into the nail until the bleeding stops. it'll be ok, no emergency vet needed. next time, though, you might want to stop into the vet before you clip your cat's nails again so that he/she can show you how to do it properly.

He'll be fine. They have small blood vessels running inside their claws, and like you said, you clipped a little too far, but it'll scab up and heal just like any humans. You may want to watch for infection though, since cats use their claws for so much (kitty litter!!) Just try to help keep his claw clean and he should be better in no time!

I'll admit, I've done that before. I put pressure on the toe for a few minutes and keep an eye on it. Never had any real issues with it, so don't worry. Pet stores sell a powder made to stop bleeding. It works great, I see it used at work all the time!

As long as the nail clippers weren't rusty, he'll probably be ok. It's similar to when you're clipping your nails and go a little to short. Make sure it's clean and he's not favoring that foot. In the morning if he's having problems or you're still worried you can take him to the vet.

Kwik Stop is what we use. It stops pain as well as bleeding. Your kitten will be okay. This is sometihing that happens to just about everybody at least once when clipping nails. If the nails are white, you can see where the quick is. Most people don't clip a cat's nails. If he is an outdoor cat, he needs them for self protection.http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geurBHnuJEf1ABh8xXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTB2dnY0Nm1iBGNvbG8DZQRsA1dTMQRwb3MDMgRzZWMDc3IEdnRpZAM-/SIG=11pbpl3ec/EXP=1155788743/**http%3a//www.petedge.com/sdx/H16901.jsp

Yes, he should be OK. 'Course if in three days time the area around the nail is swollen then you've got an infection that will need to be treated. Not likely.
The kitten will probably forgive you!
In future don't try to get so close with the trimming, just do it more frequently.

if the bleeding stopped and he doesnt seem to be in pain he will very likely be fine. i dont blame you for clipping his nails, many pet owners clip their own pets nails, but maybe next time you should have it done by a vet or groomer so you dont have to worry about messing up. good luck with your kitty & tell him i said hello! :)

he will be ok..this wont hurt him for long..if it keeps bleeding dip the claw in flour or some kind of powder this will make the blood clot and stop bleeding..you need to give your kitten a scratching post he will keep his nails short with that..good luck

If you clipped it far enough down he can bleed to death. If the bleeding has stopped than you shouldnt worry, but if hes still bleeding than take him to the emergency vet.
