Is it okay for the mother dog to leave the kennel of pups if they're not nursing to run around and stretch ? How long can she stay away from the pups with the pups still being safe without her body heat? minutes? hours? Is it okay if i keep a heating pad on while the mother dog is away? Or should I not let her out period?

It is very normal for the mom to leave the babies for a short while.
I raise Chihuahuas and I have a new litter also, the mom wouldn't get out of the bed for over 24 hours.
I would ask her if she wanted to go pottie, and she would not move. She is a very good mom, she knew when she wanted to go outside. I just kept asking her every few hours until she wanted to go. It only took her about 30 seconds to do what she needed and she was scratching to be let back in to her babies.
I am sure you have the babies in the house, so a heating pad will not be necessary. The mom probably will not be out of the bed for more than 15 minutes at a time during the first week.
You may want to keep the room the babies are in a bit warmer than the rest of the house, or close the A/C vent.
Make sure the babies are not too close to a vent, their ability to maintain heat is not very good for the first month.
The time away from the puppies will increase by the week.
Mom will probable do everything that is needed and will tell you when she needs to go outside.

You should trust her to be a good mother instinctually. They can be away for a few hours without any problem, they need to be fed every 2-4 hours and the mother probably won't want to be away for that long, as they get older that time will increase as will the mother's willingness to be away from them. Unless it is unusually cold where you are they shouldn't need a heating pad. Your dog will know what to do and when to do it... let her be a mother unless you actually see something wrong with the puppies.
If you place the puppies on a heating pad before they can crawl you could actually overheat and kill them, especially if you use a heating pad not specifically designed for that purpose (ie using a human designed pad)
If it does get cold you could buy a space heater and set it to around 75 F in the room with the puppies. It's much safer but the mother should know enough to keep the pups warm on her own.

Sure, it is good for her to get up and stretch and take potty breaks! 5-10 minutes in warm weather should be fine without moms body heat. It doesn't hurt to have a heating pad, always set on the LOWEST setting, UNDER the whelping box, just to provide some extra heat just in case. Make sure there is an area that is cooler so they can crawl away from the heat if they get too hot. They can't regulate their own body temp until 3 weeks old, so they do need to be kept very warm. If a pup is too warm, it's mouth will be very dark pink or red and it will cry a lot.

Congratulations on your new puppies! If your dog is taking good care of the puppies, you need not worry. The mother will let you know when she needs out, just make sure she can come back in. Put soft bedding in with the pups as it will retain a great deal of the mother's warmth. Puppies like their mother's warmth. In the summer a heating pad could get too warm. Consult a vet for the best puppy care advice.

HAVE YOU PEOPLE EVER HEARD OF RESEARCHING THINGS B-E-F-O-R-E JUST JUMPING INTO TO THINGS YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT??????
The mother can leave the pups. She should know when she needs to leave them & when it is time to return.
DO NOT USE A HEATING PAD WITH THE PUPPIES!!!!! It can BURN them. If the pups have an enclosed area with blankets & they are NOT outside under the porch, they should be fine while mom gets away???
After the pups are weaned, do the mother a favor HAVE HER SPAYED!!!!!

sure its ok for mommy to get out and stretch her legs, potty, eat, drink, etc.she needs a break also.I personally
wouldnt leave a heating pad on though at all,it could overheat the puppies and kill them or if the puppies tinkle on them then they good get electricuted(sp? tired sorry). do research and get a heating lamp if you think they are too cold and they will tell you how warm it should be in her whelping box,you could also take the pups temp to make sure its a a normal degree for them.I wouldnt keep mom away for hours either.

It's ok for your chi to get up, stretch and go potty. If she's a good mom she won't be gone long. Just keep an eye on them and make sure they are being fed. If she's away for hours there's probably a problem.
