I am doing a speech on getting rid of the monsters that live under a child's bed or in their closet, that is why I asked this question. I was curious if there were any kinds of statistics I could use.

That has got to be high, I would have to say at least 85-90% of all kids have that fear.

I can remember when I was little, I was not aloud to have my light on when I went to bed. So I would stand at the door and turn my light off and run as fast as I could go and jump just before I got to my bed to get in my bed. I could just see something grabbing my legs as I was standing there at my bed as I was getting into it and pulling me under the bed. So that is why I would run and jump in my bed.

I just read the answer in front of mine. Me having that fear had nothing to do with me being abused either. I was never abused in my child hood life!!!! I was as an adult, but not as a child.

Probably 70%. In my opinion, if they exist, monsters need to go ahead and come out of the closet. Coming out would be a big relief to everyone, we'd then know the real truth. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I mean, it's awesome to come out publically. My father was gay! Wait...what?

Kids have active imaginations. I used to think monsters were in my room....I was never abused or mistreated in anyway. It mostly meant I was watching too much TV with crime and murders. If your child watches any of those tv shows like CSI, etc....the monsters might be the fear that these shows put in them....and not understanding it. Let him/her watch disney!

Empower the child, tell them they need to prepared in case of emergency, but that is highly unlikely that there really are things hiding in the dark. It's imagination, have them write about it and give advice to other kids who might have the same fears, it will allow them to work it out in their own mind.
