He cannot afford food after he's sprung for the cab fare, the flowers, the chocolates, the ipod, the movie tickets, the ......... What's moderately priced to you could be above average price for him. Why don't ya go to McD?

It's probably one of the following: a) he doesn't have the money; b) he's on a diet; c) he doesn't know you well enough to want to spend a lot of time or money on you yet. Still. I have to wonder why he didn't bother to ask you what you wanted to eat.
