I don't know how they can do that, it is your opinion and belief so how can you be punished for saying what you feel?! That doesn't sound right... Has your mother done anything about it? Well I would If I was her.... So another words if you don't agree with them they will fail you... no, no, no... Call the school district and see what you can do....

You do have a problem. I am a christian and I do not believe myself to be a slave to God either. I am not sure just what brought this on for you to get two weeks of lss. May be it is not what you said maybe it is the way it came across to your teacher, or professor. See it is not so much it went against freedom of religion it is possible the attitude behind it. We have to be careful with religion because it is such a delicate subject in a sense. People get offended quite easily and your teacher may have felt offended, and she or he was totally against what you had to say about your opionions, belief on the subject. Your opionion are belief is for your ownself and I respect that. See there are people out there that are so closed minded that they can't see what others see. They don't try to understand any one with different beliefs or opionions. They are too set in their ways and it is their way or no way at all. I understand that you believe differently then I do. Ican except what you are saying, but I don't understand why they gave you lss for 2 weeks either. I have never heard of any one getting in trouble for saying if they do or don't believe in God. Atheists don't get in trouble for expressing their beliefs on the matter for instant I don't see why you should either. It sounds like to me that your teacher in english 4 class is just not opened minded and made a big issue out of it and may have decided you had a bad attitude and this happend to you because of it. This is not right in my opionion, since I was not their to know what you wrote though and I am not your judge or the teachers judge either. It really is only my opionion that hyperthetically this is the way it happend. Please be more careful how you word your paper. People do have a tendency to judge one another. I am not here to condemn you in any way. Your teacher may have shown judgment by doing you this way. I would talk to the teacher and find out for sure the reason behind it. You keep an open mind no matter what the answer is and listen to what is actually being said. You be the better person for it. You both may learn something from each other. I hope the best for you. All it takes is one word to get into trouble. It may have been the word slave. Bye for now.

The problem nobody is getting is freedom of religion can be expressed a little bit more nicely than " I am not slave to a God that does not exists" It offend people. You can simply say : " I do not believe in God"

I personaly think punishing someone for saying something they believe in is very un respectful and not very loving but put yourself in there shoes and you will realize they are just not ready to deal with these issues you brought up so they will fight back in a way they think is right. keep talking with them and try to explain yourself in more detail and open up to them. This might help a little but yes some people can be very closed minded but I dont believe anyone is totaly closed minded so there is always hope. Sometimes we have to pay for "crimes" even when we dont see them as crimes. Its part of growing as a whole but yeah it sucks for the person being "jailed" It might help if you brought a friend who was more netural to the talks also. I could wright a whole book on this but its really up to you I can only help guide you.

Yes it does, kind-of, its more of a freedom of speech thing. What was your paper supposed to be about? If it was off topic you may have a problem. If not then fight it! I believe in God, but I also believe in your right not to. If what you wrote was an important part of making your point then I wish you luck and hope you win this 'battle' with your school.

I also think your teacher is a bit narrow minded if he/she felt you needed to be punished for a simple statement. You didn't hurt anyone.

As long as you were following the parameters of the assignment, your teacher has no right to punish you for your statement. However, if your statement had nothing to do with the assignment, then the teacher has a valid point. Ask your teacher why they docked your paper. If it was for personal reasons, remind them that this is against school policy and you wish to have a meeting with them, the principal, and your parents in attendance to discuss the matter.
