This is mainly directed to the person that responded to my previous question about Daytrana, but it also serves as info for others as well. First, my 7 year old son does not own or play any video games. He plays football and shows livestock in competition. We don't have time for video games... if the sun's shining, we're outside. Secondly, the issues I'm having with my son are related to his ATTENTION DEFICIT. He CANNOT retain anything you say if you've been talking longer than 5 minutes. We can go over how to spell the words "about", "start" and "there" and by the time we finish learning how to spell "there" he has forgotten how to spell "about". There are also MANY other problems associated with AD/HD that aren't understood by "laymen". And we eat VERY heathily, mainly from our own garden and farm, so there's no preservatives, dyes or other "poisons" in our food unless you consider pasture-fed beef or organically grown cabbage "poison". We are giving him a future now.

I can, unfortunately, sympathize with you. my 11 year old son is ADHD. we have tried adderall (took away his appetite), strattera (did nothing for him) and concerta (mood swings). we have an appointment next month and I wanted to try the patch. I don't have any advice for you about the irratation (I'm sure you apply the patch to different areas). some people just don't understand ADHD and think it is the product of bad parenting and bad environment. they don't understand that it is something in the brain. that person would probably also tell a depressed person to "just get over it."

I have adhd too. But I have another type that's different from your son. Your son is probably very hyper since he's always playing outside and never on video games. That would make him healthy. But adhd is also a burden. The chemicals in our brains work thrice as fast as a normal persons. So it might be hard for him if your switching from word to word. Study one word then ask him to say it. THEN SPELL IT. And for advice I wouldn't use Daytrana. Daytrana is a patch witch he would wear during school. At any time he could take it off.

People with ADD/ADHD usually crave shell fish, it is thought they are missing a component that the shell fish provides. I suggest a great book; "The ADD Book" written by two doctors who have children with ADD. It has everything from behavioral to diet ideas. I understand what you are dealing with, have diagnosed a few cases and helped both parents, adults and children dealing with it. I am not someone that believes in medicating children unless it is a severe case. There are some natural tonics on the market that work well for some too.

i'm not sure i'm understanding the question part of this. What is it you want to know? My fiance's two children both have ADD one has ADHD and one had ADD and my fiance had adult ADD. We have the same problems with his little boy not retaining things. And he is on adderall and if for some reason he gets unruly or something and he has missed a dose of medicine he blames that for any behavior problems. Even though we have told him the medicine is not to make him behave it is to help him focus and concentrate on what he needs to be doing. His daughter is on concerta.

I understand your situation. I have 2 friends with ADHD and one with ADD. My freind with ADD can not retain very much information either. She seems to ask questions over and over again that I have allready awnsered. You did not seem to include a real question but I would suggest a special tutor or educator. Most of my freinds I mentioned have one and seem to do well in school.

I hope I helped in some way!
